O/S Daily Monday 14 October 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dark, cool and not raining - at the moment! More rain is forecast today. Still damp underfoot with laying water after the continuous rainfall all day yesterday.

Dinner tonight will be beef stew and dumplings, potatoes and LO veg from the yesterday's roast.

Back to work today - we'll see what that brings.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Fine here with sunny spells forecast (and of course chance of a shower)

I have been MIA over the w/e as it was the 1st anniversary of losing my lovely Bob yesterday, We planned to scatter his ashes and I was all churned up about it. We chose the moors above the village as it was a place we loved to walk. Daily when we had the dogs and later with the DGDs, Stunning views down the valley as far as Ingleborough. One of his favourite spots. The rain held off for our bit of a trek but it was very muddy underfoot. All went as well it could and middle DGD read out a poem on eternal rest which was quite moving.

Afterwards I had booked the lovely Italian restaurant in town for us all so we could share our memories of happier times. It was a lovely but emotionally draining day and I was glad I had all my family with me for support.

No plans for today other than odd pottering jobs and this afternoon could well be spent with my feet up. Take care all and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Have a good day if you can x

    Morning all

Absolutely pouring down here and we have a warning for flooding in our area and a storm coming in this afternoon so a horrid day in store !!

Off to work today and the clients will be restless as they wont be able to get outside I am working with another woman today which will be nice.

Roast beef tonight which is all cooked and in the fridge, all I have to do it heat it through when I get in from work so a really nice easy dinner, it was really tasty too.

Will put a wash on tonight when I get in but will have to use the td. We lit the log burner last night but we were far too warm so we might leave it for a week or so now till its got a bit colder outside.

Made soup yesterday which is very tasty so will have some of that for my lunch today.

Right better get on have good days all xx

Edit to add TA hope you are ok that must have been hard for you xx

    Morning all.

TA - what a lovely description of your day and surroundings. It must have been a very taxing day for you and the family.

I'm waiting for the sun to rise, my favourite part of the day here, before I get up. My voice is still missing. I drinking loads and gargling a lot, no joy. This will make my audiology appointment today interesting! Once that's done I'm heading back down to Glasgow.

Hugs to the poorlies. Happy Monday to everyone.

Hugs to you TA, it must have been a tough day.
Enjoy your lie in Gers, hope your voice returns soon.

It rained steadily yesterday afternoon, I did a lot of relaxing then went to friends across the road for dinner, lovely.

I'm going to get the DGC this morning, an hour and a half each way. I'm having them stay here until Friday so may not manage to get on here, who knows! We have lots of activities arranged, just need the rain to stay off for a while.

Hugs to those in need, take care. XX
  • Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.

TA that sounds like a beautiful and moving day but I can imagine how drained you must feel.

Gers, hope your voice returns soon.

I can hear the binmen outside, it is bins and recycling this week, last week was rubbish collection but they didn't take ours - because we'd muddled up the wheelie bins. The lids ate different colours but it isn't easy to tell in the dark and our household rubbish was in the bottles, jars and plastic bin so we had to empty both and swap over.

I've had a busy but productive weekend, worked in the garden most of Saturday, digging over a border, splitting perennials and planting bulbs. We had a farmers market Newby so now I've filled two containers with violas. It rained most of yesterday and that should help everything settle in.

Boring jobs today, I seem to do a Friday Tidy and then have to repeat most of it a few days later.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible

    Morning everyone

I'm volunteering this morning as a tour guide to a group of children and their teachers, so far every one of these tours I've done have been fun but eventful. We even managed to lose a child on one occasion although the teacher did say that this sort of thing was usual in her class!

When I get home I will have a quick vacuum and dust through, my house badly needs a bit of time spent on the housework at the moment but most of that can wait until tomorrow.

TA it must have been a difficult and emotional day I hope that you are ok.

    Have a good day everyone.
  • Good morning, it's wet here. Yesterday was a nasty day as well.

We had the family yesterday, so it was busy, but lovely to see them. Sometimes we go out for a walk, but not yesterday. Just sat chatting all afternoon.

Nice to hear from you Elona, and you Tru.

it's awful when you have no voice Gers - will you see a doctor? I used to get a sore painful throat every year, usually resulting in loss of voice, but I never do now, strange.

TA your day yesterday sounds sad but lovely, it's good that you have family around you.

Not much happening today, visiting a friend this morning, then we'll see Dgd after school today. No shopping needed, thank heavens, I seem to have spent a lot this week.

Thinking of the sad and poorly, and the MIA's.

    Take care folks xx
  • Good morning everyone,

Well, I feel much better than I did last week. On Friday, I had my yearly review with my boss and I kicked off the meeting by telling him the difficulties I was having in my own head. He admitted to noticing a difference in me of late and being a bit more 'distant'. He then went on to provide with me some really sound advice and we spent close to an hour talking about it. The remainder of the review was mostly positive from my perspective, so I left on Friday feeling better and looking forward to my family arriving later.

They did. My mum, step-dad, their 2 dogs and my gran spent the weekend with me and it was great. We enjoyed some nice food, went long walks with the dogs and had a merry time. I really appreciate them making the trip down, it means so much and it almost has a holiday feel to it. It was sad to see them go but it's my turn to do the journey this weekend as I've a leaving party to attend.

I forced myself to the gym this morning, as some of you have rightly suggested, I does help with my mood. I've got yoga tonight too, which, as always, I'm looking forward to. Not much else planned.

No spends over the weekend takes me to 7/17.

TA - Sounds like you had a lovely day to remember Bob by. Hope you're doing ok.

Morning all! Had my eyes tested this morning, they're a lot worse than they were, cancer treatment is paying me dividends I think...back there this aftenoon for a contact lens prescription, am toying with the idea of lens replacement.
As prmoised I bought only two balls of wool yesterday and one christmas present for a friend, she hero worships the bloke who makes the things, so I asked him to write Happy Christmas on it for her and autograph it...We did end in the prosecco bar for a while though :) It was really tiring for me even if it was fun for me ,though, I slept like a log last night.
Today the great de-clutter continues. I have black bags of clothes and shoes ready to go with the promise of more joining later. I under estimated how much time I'm having to devote to this,, but it'll be worth it to have a clearer house.
Both cats are here and asleep. It is still...STILL...raining...This is where I'm starting to get annoyed I didn't get myself a water butt.

TA, hugs, can't have been easy for you. Having your family with you to help must have felt lovely [if tha doesn't sound odd]. Camelot, careful driving, I know how knackered I am after that kind of two way driving. Holly, you sound perky, glad the volunteering is paying dividends. Speky, glad your feeling more upbeat too. AOD sounds like you're keeping super busy!Hey to everyone to post and not around at the moment...Hope all s well or cope-able [new word] if not...
    Muscle weary Monday.

    Morning all,

Misty rain today so no walk......miss it when we don't go .

My turn to be chef tonight......slow roast pot roast with spuds and mix of whatever veg is in house.

Glad that you did so well yesterday TA.

DD3 and family are taking a week's vacation to sort moving into house......they have most of what they need initially and plan on furnishing slowly......they need to sort what they have accumulated since their return from Oz, including clothes that DGD7 has grown out of.

Holly, it is wonderful to read the joy you get from volunteering.

Speky.....I am glad to hear that you had such a great weekend......review sounds very good too.

Gers.....sorry to hear that you are still poorly and that your voice has not come back......get well soon.

Expecting DD4 with the girls in the next hour......they are having beans on toast for lunch.

    Have a good day
