Why do carrots go black?
Comments

Thanks Andy
BTW I'm 51 and was brought up on a farm so I know not all carrots are orange (even tried growing a few purple varieties when I had an allotment, without much success).
This is definitely mould/rot, the carrots start off nice and orange (LOL) but within a couple of days get black spots and then very quickly go all black and mushy, they can't even go in the soup.
This seems to be a relatively new phenomenon. I'm sure carrots used to last weeks in a paper bag in a cupboard or even a week or so in the bottom of the fridge. Or maybe that's just me looking back through orange-tinted glasses0 -
Have discovered that carrots from the supermarket whose name begins with T turn black and gluey within a couple of days while those from Mr M's emporium seem to last longer.
That's interesting. I happened to be in M's last week and bought a bag of wonky carrots which I opened as soon as I got home and tipped into the paper carrier bag I carried them home in. So far, so good.0
