O/S Daily Wednesday 9 October 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here, DS2 settled and ok.
Still dark, but dry and not so cold, although forecast is for a cooler night tonight, some rain forecast also.
Dinner last night was chicken and mushroom lattices, mash, veg and gravy - they were ok but nothing spectacular. Tonight will be egg, bacon, sausage, hash browns, beans and mushrooms.
Yesterday work wasn't too bad, so we'll see what today brings. I'm working at the normal office today and it's my last work day until Monday - I'm not working this weekend - unless there's any last minute issues which require me to work. This weekend should be a bit more restful than last and we can chill.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
The wind and rain seems to have abated for now, it was really rough last night.
Work has been steady but not too bad, I think we're slowly catching up with things. Went for a lovely cuddle with little Sophie after work, she's coming along a treat and talked to the coffee table when I was changing her!
Going to see 9 to 5 tonight after work, should be fun. Will get something to eat on the way. I think there are about 20 of us from work going.
Have a happy Wednesday, take care.0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. After getting off lightly these last few days the rain is with us this morning. Only light rain but forecast to hang around most of the day.
After a sleepless night on Monday, last night I slept like a log. Sadly no secret to share I just think every so often lack of sleep catches up with me!
Bus trip out day today. We still need to decide where to go when we meet in town. Sadly not a lot of choice as we don't have an extensive bus service to chose from! Wherever we end up we shall enjoy browsing, poking around in the cs and of course lunch. This time I will be partaking of a glass of wine or two with it as I have abandoned the painkillers which didn't seem to be helping at all.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for those in need and the MIA. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Raining here again and set in for most of the day I think we also have rain for nearly all week next week as well.
Off to work today we have a lovely group of women on a Wednesday who are lovely and quiet which is ruined by noisy chap who was humming one line from a song on repeat ALL day yesterday !!
Either pasta or fish for dinner with salad will have to go and see what Ive got out and what we fancy.
Camelot, Sophie sounds so delightful and a sensible girl ! one often gets far more sense out of a coffee table than most people !
Nan ouch ! I remember that pain, hope you feel better soon xx0 -
Good morning and thanks NMLC.
It's dry and dull here, coldish as well.
Glad Sophie is coming along well Camelot.
Hope you have a good day out TA, I sympathise about the sleep, I've had another rubbish night. As you say, it catches up with you and you have a good night.
Visiting a friend this morning, and going for a flu jab this afternoon. I'll try and do some housework in between. Not much got done yesterday as we had Dgs, and we went to the quiz in the evening.
We called an ambulance for a Council workman who was taken ill outside our house yesterday, he had bad chest pains and was sweating - he said he'd had heart problems already, any way they took him off to hospital, so I hope he's ok. He was anxious about leaving his work and asked me to ring the council, so I did that,
Hope e veryone has a good day - take care folks xx0 -
Good morning, I'm feeling quite cold but hoping for a dryish day as I'd really like to clear some fallen leaves and to give the grass a cut. Not at all confident about using an electric mower on wet grass.
I have no plans other than that and doing a bit of ironing and reading some work stuff.
Hope everyone has as good a day as possibleI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning folks.
Raining, no, not raining...pouring down. It's so dark still too.
Yesterday I got a taxi in and out if town. I had a little bank business to do, one bank has 'lost' my application. The assistant took ages before admitting defeat and disbelieve. She'll call me today.
In the evening I tackled DM about stocking up the freezer with some meals from W iltshire Farm Foods for my post op recovery period. To my huge surprise she was very amenable to the idea, browsed through the website before asking me to order a brochure. What a result! :j It reliefs my mind about food at least. Friends will be happy to bring in eggs, milk, bread etc.
My mega painkillers are good at relieving the worst of the pain though I've found that they make my nerves twitch at night which drives me mad. Probably the twitching happens during the day too when I'm not lying down quietly. I was awake in the middle of the night taking paracetamol and doing some online stuff.
Today I hope to visit a friend in between looking after DM. I hope that everyone has a good day, happy Wednesday to all.0 -
Hello x
Very tense in our house today as two of my sons have had a huge row - you would think they know better but both have bad tempers when roused. Not good for me had to get darling husband to text both of them as I couldn't get them to calm down. It nearly came to fisticuffs but they both gone out now so hopefully will calm down - all over walking Molly dog - wish I could do it.
Anyway copious cups of tea needed so going to sit a bit and breathe.
I walked round to the bin twice and emptied so a little activity. Dishwasher loaded as I go along.
Oh well lets hope the day gets better xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning
,
Sat with a cuppa after unpacking and putting away the shopping delivery. We've had torrential rain here again which has put DH & DS2 in a grumpy mood ( not that it takes much) but they are so close to finishing the job they're on,which has lasted months but they have to keep stopping due to the weather. Not that it'll be much better when they start the next job- digging out the foundations for a big extension. Who'd be a builder eh ? I think it's meant to dry up after dinner so they might get an afternoon in.
My 89 yr old Auntie up the road has been in hospital twice in the last 3 weeks. She had a procedure done and then got C.Diff.I've been getting updates off her DD but the hospital are advising not many visitors
We had a bit of a mish mash for tea- not what I'd planned but DS1 had to go out,DS2 wasn't hungry really so we had bits out of the fridge that needed eating up. I'll probably do the pork stir fry tonight.
DS2 is being driven mad with his eczema itching so he's not sleeping. He saw the doc last week and got steroids and antibios which have taken the redness out but not stopped the itch. He's always had it since he was a child but it's got worse as he's got older, and sadly DGD skin is going the same way. I think we're going to have to go back to basics with his diet again to rule out allergens. DGC coming after school so I might not bother tidying up and leave it until tomorrow
Molly hope DSons have calmed down when they get home x
Have a good day x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Morning all! Super tidy and throwout continues. We're going to a van locally to see what you get for clothes. We could CS it but honestly, I'm in the frame of mind where I just want it gone. The bin was full last night [first time ever because it's usually one carrier bag of stuff I can't recycle] as well as the recyclables which have all been emptied for the next onslaught. I have piles for the dump, the CS and various bags for friends of craft supplies, as well as stuff on FB marketplace and freecycle.
OH has told me to calm down with the throwing, I have snorted and carried on. If I haven't used a lot of this stuff in the last year or two, I probably won't get round to it, so off it goes.
Joker was really good, as a dscent into madness film it did that really well, with some questions left behind as to what was true and what was not [as far as the DC universe goes] it was the best origin story I've ever seen...excellent acting from mr Phoenix...when the trailers first came out I didn't even recognise him, I was so use to the way he looked in Gladiator/8mm etc...I totally forgot about the perils of ageing.
Shower and a trip to Ikea next on the cards, am determined not to buy anything [ this might well be a step too far in terms of optimism] but I don't actually need anything. We only go for mooching and meatballs and ideas...Sometimes of course one of us will actually want something but it's just a day out really...
Gers, you're quite inspiring with your refusal to slow down and keep going despite the problems youre having. Good to hear your DM is exlaoring other food options, must be a relief to not be the one who has to provide the menu and come up with new things...nan, ouch, hope you're not too swollen today. TA enjoy your day out...and the wine! hope you find some suitable painkillers soon too. camelot, glad you're having fun with Sophie, and enjoy the film. redruby, I feel your pain, although luckily OH can't sing a note or hum very well so even when hes trying to sing something, it comes out different every time...Scarlet, well done you and I hope he's OK too! AOD, same boat, ours needs cutting too. I've done it before with the mower [also electric] I suppose the only danger really was it cutting too much off and leaving slippery patches. Molly, hot sweet tea for shock! Hope they come to their senses soon...Rosy, hope your auntie gets better soon..Hey to everyone else!
Worth it Wednesday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Afternoon all. Showery here today but it looks like it might brighten up. Dgs has a hearing test this afternoon. DD is working this morning so OH picked him up from school and we had lunch together. They have gone off now to meet DD at St Michaels. Tomorrow is Bristol Eye Hospital so rinse and repeat.
Molly sorry you had a bad start to the day. Sending you a hug. TA enjoy your day out. Nanny W hope your mourh feels better today.
Well have a good afternoon folks.
