Day of Rest

I’ m quite new to comping (maybe ten weeks or so ) and have been going at it full hell for leather :D I’m not long retired so have plenty of time , but I’ve just realised in the ten weeks, I won’t have gone a day without entering . Even on holiday I was managing thirty or forty a day.

My question is , do people take days off , or weekends off where they don’t comp at all ? Do you have set days off , or do you just do as you feel .
I think I might get burnout if I don’t get a bit more structured . Perhaps lots of people don’t take a day off either ?

I feel guilty if I don't 'comp' lol. I used to do them on holiday but now sometimes just glance through and enter what I fancy. I occasionally miss a day or two now and it does niggle but it's all about numbers with comping. I am very selective with what I enter, and think it's probably something like one in every 1500 or so that I may win something.

I never feel that I need a day of rest lol. Don't like those much. I feel bad that I entered two days ago for those ending Saturday and didn't get a chance to check today if more had been added.

There have been a couple of occasions where I stopped for a month or three. But it's been over 10 years now I think for me and it's not worn off completely yet!

    Good luck! x

Thanks Hazyjo . Ten years for you , ten weeks for me and I’m talking about a day off :D
I think I’m probably thinking about it more like a job than the fun hobby it should be .

There are just a couple of proper dailies still running and depending on the prize I always do those - with any others I stay up to date by either entering them or bookmarking them for later - probably average less than 10 mins a day entering as not many tempt me. (I used to enter more and for 6 years averaged over 80 prizes a year and only had one month without receiving a prize)

I've also been comping just over 10 years. I never really have a day off, I do cut back when I'm away on holiday but if I've got internet I can not resist a little look at the board. I do usually drop the mag dailies when I'm away.

I comp by keeping up to date with the board as comps are posted so it's pretty easy to always go back to where I left off and catch up. I think when you've been comping for a while it just becomes part of your routine and doesn't feel like a chore. I think I'd feel a bit lost if I stopped.

The thing with comping is it should be a hobby, not a full time job ... so just do it as and when you can be bothered. I think as soon as you start structuring your time or your life around it, then it becomes more of a chore.

I don't have any structure to it, If I can be bothered or if I'm bored I'll have a look and see what's available, if I can't be bothered or if I've got other things to do I'll do something else.

If you do decide to take a day off, the chances are you'll get bored and will go enter stuff anyway so I wouldn't set yourself rules, just go with the flow.

I think that's it. I'll just become a go with the flow comper. I guess us newbies just find out what suits our lifestyle after a while. Maybe with me just retiring I need to drop the work ethic a bit ! Thanks for the advice .:)

Take a whole day off from comping?!?!?! Never! Unless I'm away and have no choice. I have cut down quite a lot on the number of comps I enter, but as sleepyjones says, it's a hobby. It's just a fun part of my life. If I can't comp, for any reason, I miss it. But there are times when life interferes with my comping for a short time. Then I just play catch-up, when I can.

Personally,, I wouldn't overthink it. Try it and see if you like it. If you do, you'll find the structure that works best for you as you comp. If it ever becomes a chore, move on to something you would enjoy more.

GL and hope you win something lovely soon.

When you talk down to others it says more about you than them.

Thanks Blu ! I won a lawnmower after two weeks and that turned me into a comping frenzy maniac !!:rotfl:

I'll no doubt chill out soon XX
  • For me it varies - I sometimes get fed up of not winning (don't we all?) so stop sometimes for a week or so - I never comp whilst on holidays.
OH won a prize this week so I have started to do it again full pelt including some on Facebook which I had stopped a long time ago.

If you are doing it for enjoyment carry on - if it becomes a chore find something else to do for a few days and then go back.

    Good luck!

Thanks everyone ! Looks like the main message is not to make it a chore . No days off for me yet then :D
