O/S Daily Friday 4 October 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark here, rained hard during the night, so laying water everywhere but not so cold.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was LO's from the chinese and to make it stretch I cooked a piri piri spatchcock chicken and a few skinny chips. Tonight will be something quick and easy, will organise whilst in SM this morning.

Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I managed to get the housework done and a hoover through, not a deep clean but enough to keep it tidy. Stripped our bed, re-made with clean linen, and got all the linen washed and dried although I had to use the TD to dry it.

Today I'll be heading to the SM first thing, then home unpack shopping, then ironing.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Thanks for the start nmlc. Enjoy your night away.

Raining this morning, shouldn't complain as it's the first real rain we've had for a couple of weeks. Washing on the rack in the laundry.

Went for something to eat after work with some friends, DD paid us a visit with little Sophie so they could meet her. First time DD has been out in her car with Sophie and the first time she has had to feed her whilst out - she coped brilliantly.

Thank goodness it's Friday, for a 4 day week it's been a long one! Just going for a swim, there's an event on at school this morning so it'll be busy.

Happy Friday everyone, take care. XX

    Morning all :)

Yukky night just the 5 hours ....clearly not enough the way I feel now. Off to run a interviewing course in Manchester may have a snooze while they role play :D

Gers I have had both hips replaced and I can only say its transformational. I was only in hospital for 48 hrs then home with instructions to move as much as possible which is essential for recovery. Lying on my back took some getting used too as well but its worth it. I had all the kit ....toilet seat risers and a trolley to push your food and beverages around, support stockings for 6 weeks and no showering for a while....sexy look eh :D All of that though the result is incredible...contact me if you want to chat more about it.

nanny miss you too.....mum and dad chats need to resume :)

14 hour day yesterday all in all with travel.... all say awwww BUT and its a big BUT....you know I work with a huge variety of clients fro scrapyards to media companies....today was a hospice. Long way from home which explains the long day but they were amazing. Such positivity from everyone I met from patients and visitors to the incredible staff. I can moan and yes I do about my lot but these folks were a real example of positive attitude right up to the end.....made me really recognise how important our mind set really is. I taught them how to sell lottery tickets....they taught me far more :)

    Have an awesome Friday all

    Morning :hello:

The only time I wish I had a tumble dryer is the day before I go on holiday :D Most of the washing is done but there's a few things I want that were still being used yesterday so I've thrown them in the machine. I'll put the heating on for a while and drape them over the radiators to dry.

Not much planned for today, apart from a walk with Scampi. The packing won't take long. So I have most of the day to lounge about and watch Netflix :D

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. NELS having spent 3 weeks with Bob in the hospice this time last year I agree with every word you said.

After yesterday's 3 deg start it feels almost tropical today at 11 deg. As a drizzly day is forecast mild is a bonus.

As I was made redundant from DGD duties and grocery shopping yesterday I eventually spurred myself on to bring the Friday Tidy forward a day. So today I keep thinking it's Saturday! I think I might trip off to Ilkley on the bus and pay M & S Food a visit as it's a while since I went. My excuse is I have a few half decent Sparks food offers to use! I shall treat myself to a few nice bits for the w/e and I am not far from the bus home if my bag ends up a bit heavy. I shall do the usual detour first into Laura A in the vain hope there may be bargains to be had! (You may remember the sweater I got for a fiver off the clearance rack a while back? I wore it t'other day and my friend couldn't the price I got it for!)

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Thinking of TAFF and hi to absent friends. Take care all xx

    Morning all

Cold here again, yesterday I could just not get warm all day, so hot home and had a hot bath and we lit the log burner it was complete bliss and it warms the whole of the downstairs through and takes the chill off the upstairs, we are burning free wood from OH's work atm too so all good.

Off to work today and its the dreaded Friday, I may have a small glass of wine tonight as a reward for making it through !

Chilli and rice for dinner tonight OH will cook as its his turn and he likes making chill and I do have to say its very tasty.

Onto today we are making panini today and apple crumble so that will keep us out of trouble (although I wont guarantee that with the clients)

Nels how lovely to see you posting again, dont be a stranger !! xx

    Have good days all xx

    Morning folks.

This morning I am in chilly and wet Darlington with friends. The funeral in Durham was rather good, as these things go. My drive down was very pleasant, I haven't driven down the M74 for a few years so it was lovely to see the familiar landscapes again. Driving past the Angel of the North on the A1 was especially delightful.

Last night I had wine and a Chinese takeaway- on a school night too! The house is quiet just now, both sons and dad went out at 5.30am fir swimming club training and it's just my friend (still asleep I think) and me.

Today I'm travelling up the A1 to stay overnight with the friends whose Dad died (it was the wife's Dad) and revisit old haunts.

Whilst I was driving yesterday my surgeon rang to bring my op forward from 18 to 13 November. It fits in with my friends plans still so I'm pleased with that. No more wine or takeaways for me now.

Nelski - wow, you were brave to have had both hips done! I will certainly PM you next week. Six weeks without a shower?? Flipping heck!

My thoughts to the poorlies. Now I bid you all a happy Friday.

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.

Cold and damp here so I'll do some washing and put it on the rack indoors, it is meant to rain later this morning.

The Friday Tidy looms and I don't much feel like it but must be done. I need to go shopping for yarn to make an item for a friend either today or tomorrow. And bulbs.

I put out leftover rice and btead and a squirrel is burying it in the middle of the lawn, closely watched by a wood pigeon and a magpie.

Hope everyone has a good day
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Good morning, it's damp here, rained heavily last night.

We had Dgs all day yesterday because his sister had a hospital appt in Newcastle. He keeps us busy - he;s an absolute sweetheart, but dear me, you can't take your eyes off him.

Glad your hip appointment has been brought forward Gers, the sooner the better.
Although we live only a few miles from The Angel of the North, and pass it fairly often, I always look.

Enjoy your holiday Tru, hope you get some decent-ish weather.

Hope your day goes well Nelski, after your bad night.

Not much happening today, the usual jobs then a friend is coming tonight.

    Take care folks xx

    Hello x
Done the dishwasher and put some washing on - all tasks which I couldn't do last week so making progress.
Poor DD not happy so spent yesterday talking to her we have come up with a plan to help her but my heart broke for her - we never stop worrying about our children do we?
Anyway she lot happier today and has walked Molly dog who was very spritely and met up with her doggy friends - she has quite a few!
Gers I also found sleeping on my back difficult so much so I bought myself an adjustable bed - for me it not a temporary thing so think cost was justified. Im glad your op is being brought forward.
Anyway hope you all have a good day
    kind regards xx
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    Hello all,
DGC have an inset day at school so they fell in through my front door about 7.45am . We haven't stopped since then and they haven't stopped eating either. They hadn't even finished their breakfast and they were putting in their orders for lunch ! I tried to help to make fairy cakes but I threw the 100,s and 1000's on the floor, then dropped a full bottle of yellow colouring on my dining room carpet and tipped over a cup of coffee . Oh ! and I've had a nose bleed . I think I ought to go back to bed and start again :rotfl:. I'm booked in for colouring later :D ..... hopefully I can't do much harm to that !

DGS has swimming later so Mr Fix It will go with him and DD, while DGD will stay with me, then all back here for tea........ hot dogs, chicken burgers and salads. There is jelly, ice cream and/or Thor*tons Millionaires chocolate tart for pudding and knowing the DGC they will probably have some of each :D.
Nelski I'm glad you're back my BFF :j. You seem mega busy with work. How is your Mum these days ? Dad is still the same :wall:
Holly good on you for the volunteering :A I hope you are keeping well.
    Tru enjoy your holiday.
Gers won't be long before your op. Hope all goes well for you.
Molly 41 absolutely correct. No matter how old they are, your children are never far from your thoughts.

TA hugs for you as always. I realise that this time of year must be difficult for you.
Thinking of taff, Poppy and anyone MIA.

    Take care all
    nan xx
