If you had the time, you could spend the whole day there, fill a trolley and wait and see if they start anouncing mega bargains over the tannoy, as it gets closer to final closing time. You'll already have the trolley filled and go to the checkouts as everyone else runs off to fill their boots, pushing everyone out of the way. If there's no bargains you could, ahem, accidentally leave the filled trolley, not a nice job to leave the staff, but think about it in context with the rest of the mayhem that will have occurred that day.

I hope you meant this in jest - this is not the sort of thing that should be encouraged as it prevents genuine buyers buying things at the correct price. I saw an example of this when a local DIY store closed a few years ago - a couple of "heavy builder types" literally grabbed armfulls of products from the shelves and dumped them into four large trolleys until they were full. Not content with paying the 10p per item which the store was charging, they offered an amount per trolley. After a heated argument with the store manager, they stormed out of the store leaving the trolleys. By now the store was closed, so no one else could purchase the items and they were probably thrown away. This type of shere greed annoys me - it happens in supermarkets where people pick uo reduced items and then wait until store closure before getting them reduced again - this is not moneysaving - it's greed - imagine the mayhem if we all did that !

Not much worse than it will be when everyone else runs around like crazy when it's anounced you can fill up your trolley like a mountain for a fiver - and it ensures you get what you want. But I agree people need to apply a modicum of common sense.

I suppose yes, you'd be best trying to be sensible and getting what you would want to buy regardless of price, and then if trolley full discounts get mentioned then hot foot it to add to your trolley contents to make a mountain (assuming you have a method of transport and a use for the goods of course :rotfl: ).

If you leave trolley with time before store closure I'm sure all the rest of the customers would have no pangs about grabbing things from the discarded trolley if they're a price they'd be willing to pay. Or even grabbing the trolley itself.

Suggestion was to try and maximise the chance of you getting something you want for less, rather than waiting till prices are reduced and it's all left the shelves or you have to push past lots of people to get to the shelves.

And I wonder just how I managed to thank that post twice, once is enough surely :D

    Some updates from internal paperwork:-

    Closed:
    Bodmin 24/11
    Bulwell 24/11

    Closing dates:
    Bracknell 24/12
    Dumfries 1/12
    Willerby (Hull) 1/12
    Yeovil 1/12

    (All dates 2007)

BIG WARNING!!! - Even though closing date says 1/12, it may close the day before (ie. Horwich on the paperwork says Sat 24/11 but it closed on the Friday 23/11)

Went to Cheadle store yesterday, just because it is next to Morrisons's where I was getting my £9 copy of Hairspray. Now 40% off but not much left really. Lots of paint but unpopular colours, a few things like an air compressor (£80?), and some cheap (but small) display kitchens - saw one for £150 including the oven. My friend spotted me a bargain though - pack of door stuff, handles, letterbox etc., in chrome - £4. Not really worth a long trip but worth popping in if you're nearby. I felt sorry for the staff - the woman had to calculate each 40% discount with a calculator as it wasn't on the till system.
