The classic story of Peter & the Wolf comes brilliantly to life in this animated film, recounting a magical world in which little boys can find the strength and courage to overcome their fears and the ever-present dangers that surround them.
Prokofiev's much-loved tale has resonated deeply with generations of children, enchanted by its power and sense of fun. This fantastical new version by prize-winning director Suzie Templeton has been delighting a whole new audience, selling out concert halls worldwide when accompanied by live orchestras.
Since these screenings it has been nominated for the British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA), and has won Best Programme in Performing Arts category at Rose D'Or Festival in Lucerne, Switzerland as well as best European Programme at Pulcinella Italian Television Animation Awards. It also won both the Annecy Cristal and the Jury award at the Annecy Animated Film Festival. In fact we won.
This tale was shown on Channel 4 on Christmas Eve in 2006, and will be shown again this year on Channel 4 at the same time.
Breakthru Films' innovative animated film version of Prokofiev's classic work, set to a new recording by the Philarmonia Orchestra, was produced at the Oscar® - winning Se-ma-for Studios in Poland using stop-frame model animation and state-of-the-art digital technology.
