Working PC World peak position

I got an email welcoming me to the PC world team. I've applied to a peak position. Anybody here has any tips for working at PC World?

Same as any other customer focused job. Look happy, smile nicely, the customer is always right (officially, you may feel otherwise) and be prepared to learn and make a hash of things in the early days.

Hardly surprising, considering the current trend is for iPads, tablets and mobile phones. I work in a library and the number of people who are clearly so used to tapping and swiping things, are clearly lost when they need to use this obscure device called a mouse on this strange thing called a PC...

The 'trend' may be toward mobile devices but millions of people still use laptops and even desktop computers. Unless you get hold of the right person, you may well be educating PC World staff rather than being informed by them. Staff there seem to be totally unwilling to say they don't know the answer but know somebody who does. They prefer to waffle and BS.

believe it is part time work (at peak times) - something a student (like the OP) may find suitable

If you are to be successful in PC World remember the following.

    1. Always direct the customer to a higher priced product than he/she is enquiring about.

    2. Always insist the customer needs and should buy lots of "extras"

    3. Always insist the customer buys at least 3 years "breakdown insurance"

    4. If a customer has a complaint about a product PC World have sold them, always refer them to the manufacturer of the product.

You will not be a knowledgeable pro MSE salesperson but you will demonstrate to your managers that you have great potential as a PC World employee!
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
  • Don't pressure the customers. Every time I'm in there I always come close to using a lot of swear words towards the staff because they are hounding me around the store, Not good service at all.
