Im a 'fixer' - thinking of going variable!
For many, many years I have fixed rates - mortgage always fixed and energy too as I simply like the comfort of doing so.
However I am now wondering if I need to be brave, hit the variables and just switch often.
For a long time I have been with EDF and simply checked every few months to see if there was a fixed dual fuel tariff that was attractive and changed with them - their web site made it very easy to do. Right now I am almost at the end of a 12 months CEC deal with EDF. Almost everything looks like it is likely to cost me >£15 month more
I know its not a revolutionary thing to suggest but its new to me so does anyone have any nuggets of information or words of wisdom as the idea of a variable rate is strange - how often does an average energy Co variable rate change for instance? (I guess it always goes up)
I have my annual usage figures for the last 7 or so years noted and its fairly consistent but would I really need to know winter and summer usage for switching to work better?
Thanks

I'm on a variable rate , have been for 2 years.
Some , like bulb, will put prices up or down in response to market rates.
But personal circumstances also come in , some people need to know exactly how much they are likely to be spending for the next few yearsEx forum ambassador

Bulb are variable. Not the lowest of rates but not too far off the best rates and probably the lowest prepayment meter rates available along with Nabuh
.I used them last year. Have switched to Symbio/Zog combo on fixed rates this coming year
Bulb lowered their rates in the early summer.
If you know a couple of friends who you can refer them to you could make £100 and make them the cheapest supplier overall0
