Your local Citizens Advice may be able to help you here. Failing that, try universities in your region to see if their law school clinics can assist (though most close over the summer).
i assume you’ve given relevant details about the loan (when advanced, who to, what was paid, when it should be paid, correspondence about it not being paid) in the claim form. You’ll need to produce a written statement setting out the facts and referring to the evidence (texts/emails/bank statements etc) which support your argument.
In a small claim, the judge is likely to ask more questions and be more involved to investigate the issue than you’d expect. But you really do need to give them these basic points to have any hope.
Part 27 of the Civil Procedure Rules should help you prepare https://www.justice.gov.uk/courts/procedure-rules/civil/rules/part27#27.4. Have a look at Practice Direction 27 as well. Even if you are unrepresented, recent case law has reaffirmed that you should make yourself familiar with these court rules to ensure you can properly put your claim.0
