It is draining already. People maybe just being insensitive but every single person except the person on the gates in the whole building already have mentioned to me that the outgoing person was loud, raucous in a good way and lovely.
I don’t know what to do with that information. 😂
You keep using the word 'insensitive' and not always in the usual context. You sound as if you have a thin skin (possibly to the point of being fragile), but people are probably doing no more than expressing an everyday opinion. The fact they liked your predecessor doesn't mean they will dislike you because you aren't a similar sort of character. You're allowed to be yourself - and it sounds as if you a perfectly nice self under the diffidence.0 -
Why?

Just ignore it. 4 months ago I was said to be a very smiley and sweet person starting my zero hours job, until I realised what micro manage truly meant (after being in quite a bad position) some time later I'm being told I'm miserable and best of out of it.
I can't foresee a job lasting that you cover everyone else's birthday, holiday/weekends off without anyone stopping to consider you.
I've sat and watched people leaving the department allowed to do their own thing when in other workplaces once notice went in, it truly was let's be as awkward as possible to the person leaving but in current place the reverse happens.
It's laughable when other receptionists don't give there name but I can be told off if I were to do that, I can even find myself blamed for stuff when it wasn't me on duty, equally one time when immediate colleague went out of their way of getting me into trouble, they proceed to tell me I shouldn't have given my name when that's not how I roll. The people I work with are lovely to your face but that's where it ends. I think my Manager has this thing of keep your friends close and enemies closer. It's to weird to think about.0 -
I'd take the London job, get some experience and if it wasn't where you wanted to stay long term, you'll be ready to get a better job in London after a year or two.0

I suppose I am and possibly have to put effort in breaking that barrier to people. May be with some self-help books?
Ah well, underneath all my superfluous concerns, I think I am just frightened of starting the life on my own, being an adult in the room, create new social circles and starting a family of some sorts.
Most people just roll with it I guess and figure out in some way or other.
I might just jump into 1st job with 100% commitment and can look for a higher paying job down the line.0 -

Thanks for the insight. I think this is where my work place is heading. I might try for few months before judging it.
It's just that the area seems not very cheap to move in locally compared to London and it comes with all the other baggage such as moving away from comfort zones.0 -

Thank you. This line of reasoning might be where my comfort zone is.
As I am just starting out my carrier, and to think I am readily replaceable, It truly does not make a huge difference whether its a poorly reviewed local company or an international business in another town.
My concern is, which of these roles and industries would look better on my CV for my future prospects. I think I might decide before end of today.0 -

I think your answer lies in the reply you posted earlier on in the thread.
Would the employer known internationally not look better on your cv ?0 -

You are right. Thanks.
I wasn’t thinking at all about how my CV would look like to the next hiring manager.
This is a huge factor to consider especially considering that I am still in the early stages of my career.0 -
I would go with job 1. It is a more all-rounder role it a well known firm. You could climb wour way up from there, whether by moving in that firm or getting another role.
The 2nd role is purely sales ledger which is very narrow and probably won't open up doors for you outside of that area in the future.0 -

Thanks. Just saw your message.
I was just about fed up of this commuting from London. It’s raining heavily in north Hertfordshire, got a puncture on my bike (again) twice in a week here, blinding hungry and missed my train back to London.
All temporary and I think this company might be worth it as you just said. Just have to hold-on a bit longer and move locally before planning for bigger things in my career.
You are right, the second company is purely sales ledger, raising AR invoices and chasing up receivables. Not much to learn and has a high employee turnover company wide. (Subs and overheads)
I might take a week off, get myself CBT, L plate motorbike, get a room just a bit further away from the company and commute with a motorbike.
I have to give it a go.
