Interesting about the heating issues, I read a lot on here about people crticicising the idea of heat pumps, but they seem popular in Scandinavia, so more to do with the property (as you point out).
Perhaps the true potential is in setting out a working example that others can look to and say 'see, it's not that hard, and it works well'. Removing the fear of change is so important in gaining results.

I am pleased to see that the Scottish Government strategy includes Carbon Capture which is frowned upon by some as a misuse of funds which could be spent on RE but in fact is recognition that we may not be able to totally eliminate FF from our economy. Also it is good to see money will be put into climate change adaptation (mitigation) measures.
It also recognises, among many other measures, the need to preserve other aspects of our natural environment such as peat bogs, woodland and biodiversity which are matters quite close to my heart.Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)0 -
I see this as a bit of a false PR type statement. Can we really boast about being "100% renewable reliant soon" while increasing offshore Oil and Gas E&P. Surely producing and selling Oil and Gas to other countries while claiming a renewable's triumph is a bit hypocritical?0

Em, yeah.

No but why boast about being 100% reliant on renewables when its only half the story. It would be like a tobacco company boasting "100% of workforce are now non-smokers!"
And our economy will remain reliant on O&G (production and supply chain) for a long time!0 -

I think this comes under the heading 'Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good'.
Renewable leccy generation is a good thing, leccy transport, reduced emissions, reduced consumption of FF's within (and without) the country. But we should celebrate each milestone, or hope will be lost.
And as discussed earlier, cleaning up the leccy supply is a double win as space heating, transport etc switch to leccy as their energy source.
But, I see your point to a degree. For instance Norway is 'smashing it', be it clean leccy, BEV's etc, they are even switching their sovereign fund away from FF investments, but Norway (and the fund) is rich of the back of oil and gas exports. So I'm not trying to deny there are many issues, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy them one by one ..... too.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

True, I suppose celebrating the small milestones is always beneficial, just worth noting that there still is a long way to go. Working in that industry (historical Oil and Gas Service Company now trying to move more and more into renewable's) I see the size of O&G on a daily basis, and also the struggle to move to renewables (rates are lower, Contract terms are worse, risks are higher for service companies etc) that we are faced with. Oil exploration may be reducing but natural gas seems to be taking over (again small milestone as its "cleaner" but obviously not as clean as renewable's)0
