we went to the local pottery cafe and made it there it wasnt cheap about £20!! mr divadee helped little miss divadee draw it out and then we went from there!!!

I think you could probably make something similar at home with ceramic paints and a plain unglazed plate. But i like the glazed fired shiny effect that the pottery cafe do.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I think it's lovely, and I think you should make one for yourself, too; I know they are pricey but they are something you will cherish and Little Miss can have it when she grows up; I have two plates that my two sons made, they very rarely get used but they are on display in the dining room and it's lovely to see them. The first one we did when DS2 was a baby, and the second one we did in the summer holidays, and DS2 wrote on it in his joined up handwriting, it is really lovely!
I've also got DS1 to make a plate for his Dad before, with a picture of a car that he drew on it when he was 3 1/2, these things are priceless. I've been lucky, though, in that I have been able to take advantage of a local ceramics cafe that didn't charge a session fee.

Having said that, you could always make one on a piece of paper that you frame, you could do this at home and it would be considerably cheaper.
    That's Numberwang!

That's gorgeous! Your parents will LOVE it I'm sure.

For anyone who likes the idea but can't run to £20 for the glaws pottery, you could just make a lovely picture by printing one of the little poems about children's hands (I've posted details of these before... if anyone wants info let me know and I'll search) onto a nice piece of coloured card with a topical border round. Print your LO's hand prints on, let them dry and laminate the card or place in a cheap frame.

Just found the link for a selection of poems:
