My 9 year old wants to go carol singing which i think would be a lovely idea, and i thought we could take some of her friends and do it properly but.....
....do you have to be registered these days to collect for charity and do i need to know anything else about collecting for charity before we go and are you allowed to knock on doors collecting now a days?

I don't know the legalities, but you have to be aware that these days many people do not like being disturbed in the evenings with people door-knocking.
Why not look into singing carols at a local old folks home or a care home or something? The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

I used to do this as a kid and it was so appreciated. It means you don't have to worry about the money collection side of things, and the kids don't get disheartened by doors slammed in their face.
I always loved seeing all the residents sat round listening and smiling (and a few snoring), and they really enjoy it as well if the kids would be happy to take the time after to have a sit and chat with a few of them
hey there's no money but we couldn't be happier if we tried

You do have to be registered to collect for charity, you will need a letter from the charity you wish to collect for, but the old folks home sounds good. If you go to your local church they will have printed copies of carols, or look on line.0

I was going to take my two Carol Singing around a select few of the neighbours with homemade mince pies for people who open the doors for us ... think I might warn the neighbours that we'll be coming round, though! That's Numberwang!0

You do need to be registered to collect for chairties plus you legally aren't allowed to go door to door if you are accepting money for chairty unless you have given occupiers advance written notice of your intentions!
Our church has Carol singing evenings outside the local train station & at care homes & hospitals & is always desperate for singers for these occasions, you could look into something like this as I'm sure they'd be pleased to welcome you even if you aren't a member of the congreation.

perhaps get in touch with a local guide/brownie group - we used to sing at care homes for the older people and im sure they wouldnt mind a few extras!
we had loads of scally lads singing carols last year with no enthusiasm, its awful. Then we got a group of excellent singers in victorian costumes who were brilliant . They had made such an effort!!!
