They probably suggested it to get you to stop phoning them. You need to stop pestering your solicitor and just wait. Your solicitor can't get other solicitors further up the chain to finish their searches to suit you.
There is no need to phone your solicitor at all. If they need to know something they will contact you.
Your solicitor has finished your searches there is nothing that they can do now to speed up your purchase you are now waiting for all the other searches to be complete and enquiries answered in the rest of the chain. This could take several more months so there is nothing that your solicitor can do to speed any of it up which means that there is no point in you keep phoning them.0 -

We kept on hoping for the 7th as we were desperate too, but our solicitor wanted LR to be sorted first before exchanging .
We did tell them not to complete on their sale but they wouldn't listen0 -

I meant the advice she gave before the 1st of September was even a suggestion. The advice to give 30 days notice on my rental because completion would take place within that time frame. The advice to shut down my ISA as they were ready to exchange. My solicitor is still advising me to pay my statement. I understand that her role is done, but I don't want to transfer funds until we know an exchange date.
Also, I chose this specific firm as they boast about walking first time buyers through the process step by step.0 -

Starting from the beginning with this. Most of which doesn't make sense.
1 You can't make an agreement with the seller that you will move in on 1st of September because you don't know how long your searches will take. So you got something wrong right at the beginning of this process.
2 You signed the contracts in mid August and your solicitor said not to write in the completion date because things can change. That is when your solicitor told you that completion on the 1st of September was unlikely to happen. So there is nothing wrong with the advice your solicitor gave you about that.
3 The enquiries that were not cleared up until the 6th of September were why your solicitor told you not to write in the contract date when you signed the contract form. Your solicitor told you things can change and they did.
4 The seller doesn't have to move out this month because you have not exchanged contracts. Until you exchange contracts either side can withdraw entirely from buying or selling the house.
It is quite possible that the solicitor thought that you were going to exchange contracts sometime in September and then your seller changed their mind about renting a property. That is not your solicitors fault.0
