Recruitment agency DBS check and other questions

Hello,
I have a few questions about recruitment agency registration process
Anybody that works within a recruitment agency willing to help me, it has been a while since I have used agencies for temp office work, and I do feel like I am being misled at times:(
Do you apply for DBS and pay for it for a temporary candidate?
How long will it take?
How long will it take for references
Do you normally test computer skills?

Do you apply for DBS and pay for it for a temporary candidate? - if the job requires a DBS then yes.
How long will it take? - depends on the individual, 6 weeks would be considered good/avg
How long will it take for references - varies
Do you normally test computer skills? if the job requires it

recruitment agents have no need to mislead you to be honest, you are their main asset.
  • There can be rogue organisations which take a fee from potential candidates for DBS checks. So just make sure they are a proper agency and not some online fraudster.

I am applying for an office role that involves computer use.
I assumed I would be tested to see that I have some sort of speed and knowledge of a PC

I have been misled in the past and taken the time to register, bank details, references etc....
    And heard nothing

It is a large well know recruitment agency, I have worked with them in the past, so I know they are legit. They will be paying for the DBS.

To be fair I had a very pleasant experience with them so far, the lady that registered me was lovely and seemed very open and honest...
So maybe I am just being cynical/cautious
Dunno 🤷🏽!♀️ my last couple of experiences with other smaller agencies has left a bad taste in my mouth about finding a temp job by this method

That's not being misled, that's them not having a suitable role.

When I am encourage to register after they have seen my CV and told about specific roles that they are recruiting for that I am suitable for,
When I take the time to register, then they either ignore me or keep telling my different stories about the job start date.....
    That is being misled

I have tried to register with agencies and they have given me various excuses/reasons why they would not register me. Harsh, but I appreciate that they are not interested and won’t waste my time.

as I said recruitment agents gain nothing by spending time recruiting you and then not placing you. They have no reason to mislead you.

Just like any job they may well find multiple suited candidates and the client then picks who they prefer.
