O/S Daily Tuesday 17th September 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light and cool start but last night had an amazing sunset, and forecast is for sunshine, so hopefully we'll have a decent day. Washing in machine - hoping to get it pegged out before I need to leave for work.
DH up and getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 enjoying a lie in as he's on hols from work. DS2 settled and ok.
Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg. I had baked fish and veg. I got chicken portions out to defrost but they're still not defrosted properly, so they will go in the fridge if they're defrosted they will be tonight's dinner, if not I'll have to think of something else.
Yesterday work was either dead or manic, I'm working at the other office today, so that will make a pleasant change.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Lovely bright moon still shining here, looks like it'll be a nice day. Thanks for the start nmlc.
DD and baby are having a rough time, the baby isn't feeding very well and is a bit jaundiced, they went to see a doc at the hospital who says everything is fine but have given them some formula milk to try to top her up. If she's not any better today they will go back in for a few days to get things sorted.
I'm annoyed that the hospital sent them home so early, most of this could have been sorted before they got home, I think DD is feeling very overwhelmed and tired. Her partner is wonderful, very supportive and calm.
Anyway, sorry your MIL is so horrid to you nmlc, mine was the same. Early on in our marriage she came to stay for a few days, when I got home from work she had moved all the furniture around because she thought it looked better! Needless to say we were only polite to each other when we had to be and thankfully I don't have to see her any more.
Hope you all have a good day, special thoughts go to the poorlies and carers. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Looks to be a fairly nice day here but a bit chilly this morning, day off today to get the last bits and bobs done, I have a massage on my foot at nine and then my waxing and nails at 11, dd is then coming round with some lunch for us which will be lovely.
Tonight OH will take some bits to his dads for safe keeping and drop the pups food off, early tomorrow he will drop her off.
Dinner tonight will be the filled pasta and salad from last night, we ended up with an omelette and sw chips which was really tasty.
Need to sweep round later and put the bins out.
Camelot sorry to hear dd and baby are struggling, do midwives still do home visits ? poor girl I bet she is shattered xx
Right I had better go and jump in the shower.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning :hello:
dumpling We hardly ever see puppies so I can only assume that he knew they were young and posed no threat whatsoever. But then none of the dogs round here pose a threat either but he still takes exception to around half of them, lol. I wondered for a while if it was a size thing, but he hates the lovely chi round the corner but likes the owner, and loves the bigger-than-him bouncy beauty down the road. Then I thought it might be age, but he goes out of his way to say hello to two older collies we often see. He's just fickle, I think
nmlc I know the jokes are always about the husband's MIL, but going by people I know who have had in-law problems, it always seems that the wife's MIL is much, much worse. I think these women don't like that their little boys (no matter how old they are!) don't need them any more and feel like they've picked another woman over them. Or worse – the woman has stolen him away!
Camelot I hope Sophie's OK xx Master tru was slightly jaundiced, if he hadn''t decided to arrive at the annoying time of 2.20am, we'd have been back home before it was noticed. He spent a day under a lamp then was fine, it just meant we had to stay another night in the hospital.
No plans for today really, I'm just going to potter about. We'll wait til the postman's been before going for a walk, my yarn is being delivered in the next couple of days and I don't want to miss it. Our post arrives somewhere between 9 – 9.30 so not too long a wait.Bulletproof0 -
Morning everyone
Camelot I’m sorry that your DD and baby are struggling it does sound like they were discharged too soon.
NMLC you have my sympathy over your mother in law. She was a home economics teacher at a high school. The first time I invited the in laws for Sunday lunch She sat and pushed her food around the plate, ate half and then turned to me and said that I could come in after school finished if I wanted and she would teach me how to cook! After that they never go invited for a meal again, and I kept my distance from then on.
Today I’ve got the excitement of two companies coming to give me quotes for new guttering. I want to try and get that done within the next few weeks before the winter sets in.
I shall go for a wander up to the supermarket shortly for a few bits and pieces I need and to get some exercise.
Meanwhile, I hear the kettle calling.
Thinking of those who are struggling with life, and those looking after poorly people. Yesterday I was thinking of TA and Taff, I hope that they are ok.
I hope that you all have a good day xx0 -
Morning all, was MIA yesterday, just general busyness.
Today is Mr AOD's birthday, he is now 65, a youngster. I have presents for him and a piece of lamb to roast later. I think he's just getting up, unless we have a haunted bathroom with taps that have the ability to turn themselves on and off.
Looks like a reasonable day so I'm going to stick a towel wash on in a minute, I'm slipping as usually I get them on the line at first light.
I'm still working through my list of jobs.
nmlc I'm sorry about your MIL - I would tell you about mine but I'd get chucked off the site!
Hope you all have a good dayI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning everyone.
Yesterday the nurse arrived later than I expected so I was hanging about not showering in case she turned up then. Anyway, blood taken and she was gone fairly swiftly.
Then I went out to do various chores. There was a bag of original 50s frocks to go to a CS. The chap there insisted on calling them 'retro' whilst I kept on correcting him as they are 'vintage'. He didn't under the difference.
I also went to the bank as I like to have fivers in my purse to spend. A quick trip to the local museum to buy a gift for a friend and then collecting yet another order from Marks.
Yesterday evening DM suggested that I go home for a couple of days next week. :j. After a wee discussion it was decided that I could leave when her crossword friend is here on Saturday afternoon and return on Monday early evening. :j It'll take some organising and planning to pull it off. :j :j. I'm so excited though very apprehensive at the same time. Watch this space.
Happy birthday to MrAOD
Thoughts to all those struggling with life. Happy Tuesday to all.0 -
Good morning everyone,
I hope everyone is well. It's been a while.
I returned yesterday evening from my 8 days in Spain. A lovely time was spent with family and friends in the sun, with a book in one hand and a beer in another. I didn't have much time to reminice as I am back to work this morning. The blow of which was softened by me dipping in an out of emails when I was off, so it's not too bad.
I spent slightly more than was budgeted but I think that's due to me under-budgeting as I didn't buy anything apart from food and drink! I think we're going to go again next year, so I'll adjust my budget accordingly.
I've got the physio tonight, which will be £47.50. A spend I'd rather not have but at the same time, I'd also rather not have knee pain! Aside from that, I've nothing planned this evening. I might have an early night, we'll see.
Camelot - Wait...DD has a new baby??? So there's a congratulations in order!! Hope the little 'un improves soon!0 -
Evening everyone
A quick update - DD and the baby are still at home, they had a much better night and the midwife was happy with the improvement. Went to visit after work and they are like a different family, they've even been out for a little walk. I'm so relieved, spent half the night worrying!
Have a fantastic holiday RR, may you enjoy sun, relaxation and a few refreshments!0 -

Thank goodness for that Camelot - now you can relax a bit and DD can enjoy little Sophie more.
I've just chucked out a McSween's haggis which has been lingering in DM's freezer since Christmas 2008! :eek:0
