'Parking Charge' from UKPC

Hi
I got a parking fine today after I overran the 30 minute free ticket I had displayed.
I was just about to pay it when I noticed that the 'issue' time is 10:56am, but my ticket (which I still have) didn't run out until 11:05. Should I appeal it (given that I was, actually, late back and if they had CCTV footage they would be able to prove this)?

Thanks

If the issue time is before the ticket ran out, then how could the driver have been "late".

Read the NEWBIES thread to understand the process, but i'm guessing this was a windscreen ticket, in which case you wait until day 26 before you start your appeal.

They don't have CCTV footage, at most they will have ANPR. Are you saying that the PCN was issued at 10.56 but your free ticket that you displayed in your windscreen didn't expire until 11.05? Your timings do not compute with the fact that you say you were late back - both scenarios cannot be right.

Errrm...you were JUST ABOUT TO PAY A SCAM?!

    Do what?
I got a parking fine today
    No, you didn't.
    if they had CCTV footage
    They don't.

But of course you will be appealing and NOT saying who was driving, as the NEWBIES thread tells you, so you won't be talking you who parked/returned/did what.

This is not a fine, it is an invoice from scammers seeking damages for the harm they allege you have caused them. Do not pay them a penny unless a judge orders it.

Nine times out of ten these tickets are scams so consider complaining to your MP.

Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, many of whom are former clampers, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.

Hopefully life will become impossible for the worst of these scammers, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking Companies
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.
  • I've only just come back to this thread as had stuff to do (including, unfortunately, appealing this parking charge... :embarasse

So... I definitely haven't paid them anything and don't intend to. But I did fill out the online appeals form, attaching a photo of the 'fine' and my ticket, showing the discrepancy between the two. I take it from your messages that I shouldn't have done this...

My worry is, maybe I put the ticket upside down on my dashboard so they couldn't see the time (although I'm pretty sure I didn't do this) and, if they have photo evidence of this, my argument is dead in the water.
  • Hi - yes, I was definitely late back (think I got back to my car at about 11:25). So in that respect I 'deserved' the fine. I was just about to pay it and saw the timing discrepancy on my ticket and the fine paperwork so I was hoping to get out of paying.

So in your opening post you asked:
    Should I appeal...?
...and then appealed before looking to see if anyone had answered your question?

And no doubt telling them who was driving too.
  • Well, yes. I waited a bit for replies, then read about it a bit more on MSE and decided that I'd appeal using the online form because I've got a really busy week and wanted to get it sorted while I had a minute.

I don't think I told them who was driving. Why is that so bad? Can you explain what I've done wrong here?

    Thanks
