Ideas to ‘Change’ basic pasta sauce

I’ve started batch cooking and I’m going to attempt a slow cooker Marinara tomorrow. I do like it as is just on pasta but I wondered if anyone has any tried and tested ways of adding things to it to add variety now and then. I thought some fresh chillies would be good to start.
Any ideas will be gratefully received.
Thank you.

Definitely anything chilli related would be lovely! Do you have any dried mushrooms? They really give a lovely depth of flavour to anything slowcooked. I chuck in whatever herb mix my son is using at the time too currently he's loving herbes de provence but if you have any fresh growing even better!0

I always try to keep some mince in, either fresh or yellow sticker/frozen. When I can't be bothered, my options are:
Keema (add a curry pot)
Chilli (add chillis/kidney beans)
Lasagna (cheese sauce/bechamel etc)
Moussaka (as lasagna but with potato or aubergine)
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -
Mascarpone cheese,
ricotta and spinach,
smoked paprika and oregano.
Roasted vegetables.
Olives
Dollop of pesto
Basil
Parmesan cheese.
Tuna.
Red wine
Olive oil.
Have a look at an online supermarket and look at jars of pasta sauce and try making your own.
Good luck0 -
Thank you all for the suggestions. I do normally do bolognese and lasagne but I meant more for something to chuck over cooked pasta.
I’ve got the marinara in slow cooking now. Just did a normal batch first to see if I like the base recipe. I’m going to add some chopped chillies and a glob of pesto tonight and then stir some sardines through.
No idea what it will be like lol! Fingers crossed though.0 -
