Best value opticians for frames etc. September

I currently need two new pairs of varifocals (one sunglasses) and an occupational pair for computer work. In the past I have found Zeiss lenses best for my main pair but not all opticians seem to offer them.
Can any optical professional suggest where I would get best value for money? I am not averse to buying the occupational lenses online but would be worried about the varifocals as the measurements seem critical.

You Pays your money and takes your choice. If you have noticed a diffrence between zeiss lenses and notice the benefit then consider sticking with zeiss but will be expensive.
The best value varifocal lens is probably a good design but not a well known brand like shamir or Optic Mitzen.
Essilor is the biggest name but a lot of their lenses are of an older design and not in my opinion the best.
Generic designs form the multiples work well for a some people depends on how good quality a lens you want.
If you are sensitive enough to notice the diffrence between zeiss and other lenses I would definetly avoid getting made up online.0 -
@kirtondm Thank you for the advice. I went into Boots and Specsavers today but there was nobody available to spare me any time. I felt invisible. Maybe I will look for an independent optician. The sunglasses aren't so important but the main varfocals will be worn daily for most of the day, every day of the year so it's not just like buying a good pair of jeans. Will have another sortie tomorrow and see if I can speak to somebody who can give informed and impartial advice.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

I'd go independent if you want an in depth chat about lenses. The high street chains time their glasses consultations around tests coming out the test room and often don't have spare staff around for a "walk in" who has lots of questions.
I'd also recommend having your eyes tested wherever you're getting your glasses made up.0 -
Why did you find Zeiss best? I cannot see a difference between Zeiss and cheap online lenses, both multi and hard coated. These were single prescription, not varifocal.0
