Hair dye and Eczema

I wish to dye my hair with natural colour and my eczema is under control using current medication, so therefore I don't see a dermatologist.

What the safest way I can dye my hair from a Solon, I did a patch test few days ago and felt bit itching for a while.

Any recommended hair solons in London?

What's the best hair dye I could buy, so my partner can do it at home after the first colouring at solon?

Thanks

  • Any salon will do a patch test for you. In fact it’s a requirement that they do so as far as I know.

They will usually write down the brand and colour they have used for you. You can go and google and find the nearest equivalent. Eg my hairdresser uses l’oreal professional range so I use l’oreal Casting Creme Gloss when I top up in between times, though I don’t ever get as good a colour. I have a very sensitive scalp by the way and this works for me. But do always do a patch test before you use anything. And have antihistamines on standby just in case.

Not sure what colour you’re considering but I have heard that jet black dyes are more likely to cause reactions, just fyi. And the reactions can be horrific (ie hospitalisation bad).

Visited a professional solon, the normal hair patch was itching. Few days ago they did ammonia colour free test, this was fine. Appointment in this week.

    Thanks,
  • As I visited Toni and Guy, and they did an excellent job.

Can you buy 'ammonia colour free' but the hairdresser said no.

The only reason I am asking, to lower my cost? Otherwise I visit them when I need to.

    Thanks,
  • I think Casting Creme Gloss is ammonia free. The issue would be if you’re looking for permanent colour (I think) semi permanents are often ammonia free. Interested to see if any hairdressers here might be able to tell us better :)
