Hi
As a taxi drivers daughter I can tell you there are a lot of costs involved. You have to pay for the car to be hackneyed (glorified MOT which you must have fire extinguishers and first aid kit) and pay for a taxi driver licence. Then theres insurance which must have public liability included. Most places will have a test you have to pass to ensure you know where you are taking folk which if you take a course will also be a cost.
I would get in touch with your local hackney office and find out what they require as each authority have different rules ie waiting lists, type of cars used.
Hope that is of some help0 -
Hi
If you dont want the expense of being an owner driver, try phoning local taxi companies to see if they need casual drivers. I did this for over a year and made good money. Be warned though...if you're planning on working friday and saturday nights you will need the patience of a saint!0 -

They pay very well with the right hours/area.
My friend does it and takes home about £800 per week.
Not bad if you ask me.
I'm pretty sure that's before tax.
Don't forget everyone that you need to pay your taxes. It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.
Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.0 -
My OH is a Taxi Driver and loves it. He does work some long hours but so far this week he hasn't been to work! but we won't be any worse off for it, he will probably do three 12 hour shifts this week and thats it.
He has got his own car on as his firm only had half rent cars available and he wanted to be able to go out whenever he wanted.
He mainly does nights and has hardly any trouble at all, no one has been sick, he has had 3 runners (all females), no one has tried to knife him thank god!!
He can usually earn between 400 -500 pre tax a week working about 4 nights a week.Total Debt [STRIKE]£36323[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Dec 2012[/STRIKE] £19000 January 20160
