Want to throw away laser printer

I've searched this site and the internet and can't find any help on this.
I've got a 5 year old very heavy laser printer and it's broken. It will cost too much to replace the parts (estimate £150+) and I've bought a new smaller printer for the price of those parts anyway.
I want to get rid of the printer in a green way - for free.
How do I do this?
I know that I must take out the papaer, toner and cartridge. But then what?
If I have to, I could take it to the local tip - but will they charge me for it?
Most of the companies I've seen want to charge to take it away.
This is my own printer - not a commercial one.
Any ideas?

If you take it to the tip in a private vehicle (not a van) then I don't think they would charge you for it.
At least they wouldn't here, but they will stop you if you're in a van (especially if it's one which won't go under the height restriction - whoops! - or a company van).
Alternatively contact the manufacturer and ask for their advice under the WEEEE regs.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
You could try offering it up for free on your local freecycle. As long as you say it is broken then you might find someone wants it to use for spare parts.0
