I just wanted to make a final post on this diary.

We reached mortgage neutrality a month or so ago and just in the nick of time, as I have recently been diagnosed with a sudden and aggressive stage 3 (possibly 4) cancer.

We don’t know what the future will bring but I am so relieved to know whatever happens we will have a paid off home. Thank you MSE and everyone on this board.

To anyone thinking about whether a mortgage overpayment is worth it… yes it totally is.
