Hi, welcome to my diary!
I am a complete newbie to posting but have loved dabbling with MSE over the years.
I am a complete contradiction , in that I love being frugal, (eye roll from family),and getting good deals etc but also love treats and travelling.
I am trying, continuously, to find a balance but unsurprisingly, debt wins. When i was honest with myself and included everything in the calculations, it came to 17k! I have been keeping a written diary for a while but have not seen much improvement, so here I am to try and be better and more accountable. The goal is to be debt free in 2 years, with the increased disposable income I want to overpay the mortgage and be free of it in 5 years. (We have 10 years outstanding). I am committed to this happening but in my line of work I see every day how fragile life is, therefore I have every intention of still 'living' and enjoying life in an MSE way.
So, here we go then....
Thanks for taking the time to read,

So day one...
Been at work all day so upside is no money spent
I'm also trying to be better with diet and exercise etc.
Did well on diet, only ate what i had prepared yesterday.
Had a delicious homemade soup from the last of the carrots from my veggie patch and the bedraggled onions.
I don't really have green fingers but I love growing fruit, veg and herbs. It's so satisfying eating food you have grown and very MSE!
Also managed to drink best part of 2l of water, usually much less and consists of mainly strong tea.
No exercise as such but will try and make up for it on days off.
So all in all today was a win
Lets see if I can keep up the momentum....Balances August 2019

Don't want to talk about day 2...horrible day at work, swapped my lovely soup and salad for biscuits and doorstep toast. Definitely an emotional and stress eater!!
Had to spend money too but it was on petrol so can't really be avoided. Need new tyres on the car this month too. If my maths is correct, I should have enough in 'extra fund's. I have a fuel allowance for my job and I did a ridiculous amount of miles last month.
I've been trying to think of more ways to save and make money. I can't do any more hours at work, I'm already close to burn out after doing extra last month.
Could change current accounts but always a bit nervous that if it messes up I end up with the stress of having to sort it out!
Our food bill is tiny now DD2 has gone back to uni, and other half tends to buy most of the food, he loves yellow stickers and supermarkets!
I have bits on eboy but not really doing anything.
Managed to sell some old sofas but i have allocated that money to exercise, I know I can exercise for free but I need the motivation!
Unfortunately 0% balance transfers are not available to me at the moment. I also tried only a few weeks ago and didn't want to do too many applications.
I give myself pocket money into a separate account and i havent been using the credit cards.
I think I'm just really impatient, have to remember it took me years to build up that total....
Hope everyone is doing well
