Senior underwriter

We have applied for a mortgage with Aldermore and have had a few delays. We were told yesterday our application has been approved for the full amount but now needs to go to a senior underwriter for final checks and we will know Monday. Do we need to be worried it has gone to a senior underwriter or is this just part of the process?

Somebody with the correct authority has to sign off the application. After all your offer letter is effectively a cheque worth thousands of pounds.

Generally where I work it's just a formality for more unusual cases (high value or special employment circumstances etc.) - unless the original Underwriter has missed something significant it should be fine.

If there were concerns with the application prior to it being passed to a Senior Underwriter, they wouldn't have told you "....application has been approved for the full amount" - as that's only going to cause complaints further down the line!

In my experience if there were concerns, they'd be raised with you by the original Underwriter. If the Underwriter needed Senior advice, they'd have got it (without telling you) and then acted on it.

That's not to say there won't be concerns, but generally the being passed up is just for the correct/final sign-off as Thrugelmir says.

We are in the same situation Mrs George, told today the underwriter is happy with everything and she has passed it to a senior underwriter for approval.
