Fixing pair of glasses?

Options
Got a new pair of glasses 6 months ago and noticed about 2 weeks ago they seemed a little loose at frame, took them into opticians who said yes they were, and it was because I remove them from face with one hand and its meant to be two hands and forward.

Right now they are wearable but they are coming away from the front frame, I was thinking of some bonding agent to hold them together

What are they made of and how are they held together? When I've been taking mine off badly, they need an occasional tighten of the screws - is this not the problem with yours?

Was the optician the one that you got them from? You would expect them to be more helpful in that case. I took some to specsavers the other week because I sat on them and broke the nylon cord that holds the lens in. They took them away and fixed them in 15 minutes without even checking where I had bought them.

Specsavers, they are saying at best since they are 6 months old to offer half refund as credit towards new pair as they are unable to be fixed.

It's not the arm part, its the part between the leg and front of frame at both edges
  • That's annoying when they are only 6 mo old. Would something like superglue work? Maybe give them a thorough cleaning and degreasing first.

Superglue might work, but ideally a pic of the actual "problem area of concern" may help if possible perhaps.

That contact cement type stuff (but its not quite that) that modellers use for minatures might be fractionally better for sticking but super dooper glue will suffice I expect.

Surprised they won't sort them for you though :( Have you checked with another opticians perhaps ?

This might sound odd but you have a local(ish) market that has a jewellers ? As in does repairs and things. They would be worth asking actually as they are used to dealing with small fiddly repairs I expect. No harm in asking. I only say 'market' as the major stores might not be interested as its not jewellery but a decent market store might well be. :)

My last glasses lasted 10 years, but during that time I did major repairs on them, including replacing the screws, soldering them, fixing them with wire and bending the arms in a vice.

I think your optician is spot on to be honest. But knowing how they got bent does not fix the problem.

You could try bending the arms themselves by griping the arm with pliers near the hinge and pulling on the end which fit onto the ears. If they are not metal frames heat using a hairdryer often helps.

If a small gap has opened up between the two parts of the frames the screws go through then that means the screws are lose and hence just tightening the screws will probably fix the glasses, but the optician would probably have tightened them if he/she found that to be the problem.
