O/S Daily Thursday 5 September 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Light cloud, air is chilly but dry underfoot - rain forecast for later.

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was egg, bacon, chips and beans - wasn't a particularly healthy dinner but enjoyed by us, clean plates all round. I remembered to get the chicken out to defrost overnight - I've checked it this morning and it's still not properly defrosted - so I've separated it out in the dish and put tinfoil over it and hoping it defrosts before I leave the house this morning. I do have other options if not - but would prefer to use the chicken. Tonight's dinner should be the chicken with either HM savoury rice or pasta with a sauce - we'll see.

On to today -

This morning I'll be heading straight into town first thing as I have an appointment, and I need to visit the bank and building society and pick up birthday cards for my mum as it's her birthday tomorrow. After town I'll be visiting her to take her prezzie and cards as they are going out for lunch with her sister and brother in law tomorrow It'll be a nice break for my dad too.

I'll also need to get my normal "to do" list jobs done, which I'll work my way through.

Yesterday work wasn't too bad, but working again on Saturday, so need to get the jobs done today and tomorrow morning so I can have some chill time in the afternoon.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning all

Nice and bright here but seems a lot cooler but sunny which is good.

Off to work for me and noisy Thursday with a group of mainly younger lads who are a bit 'ladish' and one older chap who thinks he is a lad ! its normally a good but noisy day !

Tea cakes, scones and sausage rolls being made today so a busy day.

Tea tonight will be some of the filled pasta with salad for me and Garlic bread for OH .

I need to order our Currency tonight the post office is quite good atm for exchange rates so will go with them I think we can collect easily too.

    Taff thinking of you xx

Gintot glad dgs had the op and all went well xx

    Have good days all xx
  • Good morning, it's cool here but fine.
    Thanks NMLC for starting off.

Redruby, we've always ordered currency from the Post Office, as you say their exchange rate is good.

Yesterday, don't know what happened but I didn't get half done what I'd planned, I didn't even go out anywhere. Must try and do better today.

Today it will just be general housework, and there's a tiny bit of ironing. I'm going to make pea and ham soup as well, I put some green split peas to soak last night.

So that's my exciting day ahead.

TA hasn't posted for a while , hope she's ok. I think it's nearly the first anniversary of her husband's death, so she'll be fragile.

Thoughts to the sad and poorly -
    Take care folks xx
  • Morning everyone,

As promised, I visited the gym yesterday after work for an hour before joining some of my mates on the xbox at night. Oh, and squeezed in a quick call with my gran who was feeling slightly better than the previous day.

Went to the gym this morning and I've an appointment with the physio tonight at 6.30. I've paid £65 for this private appointment in the hope they can finally help my knee pain, so I'm really looking forward to it with my high expectations. Aside from that, I'll catch up with my gran for a bit again and that's about it.

RR - There's a currency exchange comparison tool on here somewhere I'm sure...
Scarlet - We all have those sorts of days from time to time.

    Morning folks.

Had a bit of a lazy start today, yesterday my hip was extra sore, it's amazing how tiring it is to hobble around! Anyway...DM's visitor was really good. They have been friends for many decades and share many memories. He's still very lively and interesting so the visit livened up DM a bit.

No idea what today will bring.

My thoughts are with all those struggling. Happy Thursday to everyone.
  • Usual trip to Aldi this morning, after Mondays drama I was feeling a little ambivalent about shopping, however we do need to eat.

Bright and sunny again, with a cooling breeze, much the same as yesterday once the rain cleared, although we did have a shower last night.

OH has asked for spag bol tonight, have been extra lazy and bought a jar of bol sauce!!

So spag bol, strawberries and cream for dessert.

    Hi everyone,
Its very quiet on the daily today ... hope all is well.
SR- I'm having an at home day trying to sort various messy corners :D Come to think of it I did yesterday too apart from picking DGS up from school, and it doesn't look much different  Both DGC seemed shattered last night- first week back and all that.
Just had the shopping delivered so we're ok now, stocks up to normal levels.Picked up a meat pack from the butchers yesterday too,I've had to do a bit of rearranging in the freezers to get everything in.Not much happening here so sorry its a boring post.We got some flooring samples and are going to look at some more tonight - we never replaced it after we were flooded. It didnt look too bad after everything dried out back then but it's 4 years since at xmas and it's looking shoddy now, & some of the joints are lifting.
Right I shall carry on putting my shopping away , take care x

  • Afternoon all. The bedding is nearly dry on the line, we have had our feet cared for and pampeted and had a trip to Sainsbugs and Iceland. OH likes the steak bakes from a well known pastry shop they sell frozen there lol.

We have booked a week in Wales towards the end of Srptember. Just us lol! We like Camarthen way. We used to holiday at Llansteffan when the kids were small.

DD and dgs are at Victoria ready to get the Megabus home. OH will pick them up later. I am so pleased she has been told that she can have funding to get the train for the next visit.

Gers glad your Mum enjoyed a visit from her old friend. Taff thinking of you.

Have a good afternoon folks. Hugs and spoons all round.

  • Evening! A busy few days for me, lots of de-cluttering in the kitchen cupboards and drawers.
It's quite a bit colder getting now, the horses are out tonight though as it is promising to be dry for the most of the night.
Diet is doing well at the minute, I am eating much more healthy food and it is soooo nice.
There are some lovely places in West Wales Gintotmelin, if you haven't already and if you get a chance visit the Stackpole Estate near Bosherton in Pembrokeshire, it's about an hour drive from Carmarthen but is lovely, DH and I have spent many breaks walking around there.
Hope everyone has a lovely evening, sending hugs to those who need one x

I spend an insane amount of time wondering if I am doing it right, sometimes I remind myself that I am doing my best....and that is enough
