TePe Interdental mini tooth brushes - So Expensive

I am nagged by my dental hygienist to use these mini brushes to maintain a good set of chompers however I am surprised how expensive the recommended brand is - over £3 for a pack of 5 TePe brushes!

Given that they tend to snap off afte half a dozen uses I wonder if any other frugalists have found a more affordable alternative to TePe - I tried a Wilko home brand but ended up with a mouth full of fine fibres....

  • I buy the proper ones but in bulk from a dental supply company with an ebay shop. They're about £10 for 25 - still not excatly cheap, but my teeth are worth it :)

Supermarket packs tend to have less in than the packs you can buy at the dentist.

The packs I supply have 8 in them. I think we charge £3.50 per pack.

They do last a little longer once you get good at using them - and as said above, they can be bought cheaper in bulk online - but always make sure you're getting genuine ones. Fake or cheap imitations can actually do a fair bit of damage. The root surface of the tooth can be very prone to wear if anything too hard/abrasive is frequently rubbed against it.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

They are usually on 3 for 2 in Boots, repackaged under the Boots' Expert range.

Maybe you're being too rough if they break so quickly.

Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)
  • I get mine from Home Bargains. Their non-branded ones are under £1 and come in several sizes. I use the blue ones as they are the correct thickness for my teeth. They also last quite well.
I have tries both branded and non-branded and these suit me the best.
I use Oral B dental floss as this suites me best, but can get it at Home Bargains for over a Pound cheaper than anywhere else.
Home Bargains have many non-branded and generic products that are VERY well priced.
