O/S Daily Wednesday 4 September 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Dark, cloudy and raining - laying water too - it looks like it's been raining from some time during the night - forecast is for it too stop this morning. I pegged some washing out last night when I came in from work as it was so lovely - sunny, warm and blustery - it was dry when I brought it in, so luckily there's not enough to make up a load this morning.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Dinner last night was LO's from Sundays' roast, meat braised in gravy in the oven, LO cauli/broc cheese, yorkshires, I added some roast potatoes, peas, and mushrooms - lovely it was. Not sure what we'll be eating tonight possibly breaded chicken portions with either rice or pasta or maybe egg, bacon, chips and beans.I'll find something as we have reasonably good stocks in the cupboard and fridge/freezer - just nothing defrosted.
Yesterday work was quite manic as expected - really due to it being the beginning of the month and we were short of staff - but makes the day pass quicker. My normal office didn't get systems restored until after 1pm yesterday - so expect today could be a busy one also, most of the schools here go back today too. Last day of my normal working work although I'm working Saturday too.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc.
No baby news, DD had a sweep yesterday but nothing happening. I'm putting a sign on my office door today to say there's no news!
Had a call from DS2 yesterday, he's coming over tomorrow for the weekend to go to a stag do which involves golf and would I look out the clubs. One set in the loft and two in the cellar that all needed cleaning, they are now strewn about the house and I'll have to try to get them into the car tomorrow as he will pick them up from my work.
Showery this morning, I've stripped the bed and washed the bedding, it's on the rack. The bed has been made up with the winter quilt on, fed up with putting a blanket on the summer one.
Thinking of those with worries, take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Pouring with rain here and very grey it looks like a winters day out there, its meant to brighten up later though.
Taff and Gers my dad had delirium a few times it was very funny and I was screaming with laughter in a hospital ward (not very appropriate) he told me they had had a 'gay convention' the night before and that nurse over there ( a male nurse) has walked up and down dads back in his stilettos and that they were climbing through the windows and jumping on the beds, he realised after that it could not be true but at the time it was very real, bless him x
Dinner tonight will be pie and chips for OH and I shall have something with chicken and veg will have a think during the day.
Specky the Cod & chorizo stew thing was very nice recipe on the bbc good food very easy to do as well xx
I need to do a wash tonight will have to hang it on the airer in the conservatory.
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Good morning, it has been raining hard but now the sun is shining. Wet underfoot but everything smells fresh.
Spent a couple of hours with a dear friend yesterday. She had a big birthday a week or so ago but was away. I took her some rather nice flowers, picked out what I thought she would like at the florist's and they did look good, she liked them.
Journey home took ages though, the buses here can be excellent but when they fail, there is a lot of muttering and mumbling at the bus stop. It tends to be the smaller suburban services that are unreliable rather than the big main routes.
Thinking of taff and her father and anyone else who is finding things difficult.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off nmlc
Woke this morning feeling quite cold, not raining yet but forecast for later this morning. Need the rain, water butts are empty, garden so dry.
Won't go out today, need to get some housework done, been too hot to do much lately.
Thoughts are with taff and her Dad, Gers and her Mum and anyone finding life difficult at the moment
Hope our absent friends are all okayIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Good morning everyone.
All of a sudden DM wants large portions of food and puddings! Now the fridge is almost empty so a foray is needed today at some point. A friend of DM's is coming to visit either late morning or early afternoon. He's a retired colleague and solicitor who went to the Scottish Court of Sessions yesterday for the political battle. DM will love to hear all about it.
I didn't collect my M&S orders yesterday so that needs done too.
My thoughts are with all those having a difficult time. Happy Wednesday to all.0 -
Good morning, not a bad morning here, fine, not cold
.I didn't manage to post yesterday, seemed to be in a hurry all day.
I went to tai chi, we had Dgs till 5.30. we went to a little award ceremony and buffet at our local residents association, then went to quiz.
Just catching up a bit today. On Monday the new service man came to look at the gas fire. He took it all to bits, cleaned it. and it's a s good as new!! We were so pleased, we had resigned ourselves to buying a new one.
Speky, hope you enjoy your hols, working in Sales must be high pressure. It'll be a nice break.
Hope your wrist will be ok Hester.
Taff, thinking of you and the family, also Gers and her Mum.
Camelot, hope you don't all have to wait much longer for that baby !!
Thoughts to all struggling with life and health problems, and the MIA folk.
Take care folks xx0 -
Good morning everyone,
As I was on Monday, I felt shattered when the alarm went off and opted to go back to sleep instead of going to the gym. I do feel an element of guilt but I've got yoga at lunch and then I'll do a run later, so not all that bad. Not much else planned for this evening anyway, so I can take my time.
Yesterday I stayed late in work, only really because a potential customer asked me to call them at 6pm because they were driving, which I did and they didn't answer. Oh well, I got other bits and bobs done so not all too bad. Plus, goes to show the change in my mindset from 6 months ago when I'd usually still be in the office at 8pm or 9pm.
Without going into the long and complicated details, my work is about to go through a legal battle. I've been reassured it's business as normal, and will continue to be regardless of the outcome, but I'm not so sure. The owner of the business is a ruthless millionaire entrepreneur (think Alan Sugar-esk) and I fear he might close this small business if it's too much hassle or will cost him too much in courts. We've done nothing wrong at all, our client broke their end of the contract, but the whole thing doesn't fill me with confidence.
I also got a note from my mum to say my gran was taken into A&E with a sharp pain in her abdomen. After lots of tests, they're unsure but recon it might be an infection of some kind. The concern is that it was a similair infection which triggered her heart attack last year, so she's now staying at my mums under her watchful eye in the hope she improves.
Apart from all this, I'm fine.
RR - Thanks for the feedback and I did chuckle at your Dad's story haha!
SO - Time to put the heating on, I recon!
Gers - Good news about DM.0 -

Mormomg all. Bright and breezy here and I have a load of washing in the machine. No plans for today yet.
Dgs had his eye operation yesterday at Moorfields. He is fit to go so they are going to visit DD's friend and her family for a couple of nights. She lives in London with her husband and kids and DD doesn't get to see her often.
Well hugs to all especially those caring for family or lonely sad or worried.. Have a good day.

Hello all.
Busy again, DGC breakfasted and then deposited at school, Dad collected and taken to his hospital appointment to see the chest specialist and then taken back home. Now back at our home and I'm shattered, not helped by having a cough arrive out of nowhere last night and still awake at 4am. Will tell myself to have an early night
. Then this morning I thought it was Thursday .......... I've lost the plot methinks!
Nothing much happening this afternoon except collecting the DGC and cooking tea, which will be lasagne and chips. Dad is coming over for his tea too, but the lasagne's a ready made job so I will just bung it in the oven along with the chips, sorry OS'ers.
Mr Fix It is listening to the shambles of parl*ment and I'm sticking my fingers in my ears singing la, la, la...very difficult when you're trying to type. IMO They are all a disgrace .
taff my MIL had dementia and was always "pleasantly confused " but a water infection would take her over the edge and we had several laughs at her antics......... She led an escape party from the cottage hospital and the staff had to chase them down the fire escape, she went to Australia and back in a day and had a lovely time playing with some kangaroos, she even pointed out the pilot, who was a male nurse. There were numerous other funny episodes, too many to mention :rotfl:. I shall send you extra special hugs at this difficult time.
Speky I hope your work worries are unfounded.
Gintot well done to the DGS, I hope his recovery continues and all is well.
Hugs to all those that are facing daily struggles.
Take care
nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0
