Knitting - shrinking question

I've knitted a jumper which is a bit too big. Is there any way I can shrink in a couple of sizes? EG wash in hot water? Please don't tell me to unpick and re-knit because that won't happen :)

Thank you.

  • If the jumper is wool than yes a hot water bash with soap will felt it a bit and it will consequently shrink but it is a gamble as to how much. If it is acrylic then a hot water wash will stretch it. You could set it by steaming from above and hand pressing, cool it, then cut it down and sew it like fabric

I have unpicked whole jumpers before now and re-done them on smaller needles

I like the cutting and sewing idea - thank you.

  • I would try taking the seams in a bit without cutting if possible.
