Prove yourself at the new store with the goal to move back to your local store to transform it.

That is a very negative manager, I wonder if they have been holding you back.
  • I've been feeling so low after hearing my manager say all that negative stuff to me, especially after she has been fully aware of my struggles but you all have been so kind and so helpful. Honestly, I feel like a massive weight has been lifted off my shoulders and cannot express how much I appreciate such kind and humble souls taking time to advise me/wish me luck. Thank you so much :)

Everyone has different dreams and aspirations - Your dream is to become a manager.
Everyone is at a different stage - You are on the cusp of becoming one.
Everyone will have ups and downs along the way - You had a few knockbacks along the way and now you are there.

Forget what anyone else says. I was told that I would make a bad mortgage broker because I was struggling to get my head around a calculation in the exams... That was 7 years ago. I still struggle with the calculation on the rare occasions it is needed but I can use a calculator. The point being is that forget what others say, she may not like it, you may love it.

Easier to say on a forum than go out there and do it, but got to put your own aspirations first so even if just to get a foot in the door and ultimately move on, do it if (and only if) its what you want.

It's not...in my opinion, that uncommon to hear things like 'its not worth it' and 'this place is going to the dogs' in the workplace, in all fairness it could be but the last thing you need is your own perspective tainted by someone who might just be experiencing the dullness of routine. If you want it, go for it.

    (if you don't someone will)

Hi everyone, just a little update:

So since I last posted - I asked if they could increase on the offer slightly (the original offer is £4K increase on what I am currently on) just because I was a little concerned with parking costs at the new place. They did take a while to come back to me after asking for my reasoning. They said no to increasing the original offer because it's my first management position and what they are offering is fair regarding that and in terms of experience (no previous management) too.

My manager went crazy this morning when I told her I would still be happy to take the original offer she said it was embarrassing for both of us because "we kicked up a fuss' about getting more money and because they've said no, I will look like an idiot taking the original offer.

    Just a little background

    1. I've felt forced to ask for more money and was told by her if I took anything less than £...K I would be a "mug"

    2. She said that she wouldn't tell them I want to accept the offer and that I would have to call and them why I've changed my mind.

    3. She said that I will have to face everyone involved inc HR, Area Manager and look like an idiot in front of them...

She was fuming with me for even considering taking the original offer and told me to take my redundancy and then apply for a job with the same company again after a couple of months have lapsed.

Am I wrong for taking the original offer despite asking if there was a chance for an increase? I wouldn't be losing out on anything by taking this offer at all... Just means I will need to pay for parking at work which is discounted for employees.

Nonsense - perfectly normal to ask for a higher salary than the employer initially offers, its called negotiation. You won't look at all idiotic to HR etc, this happens all the time.

Stop taking her advice and take ours!
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Who is this woman? Why does she have so much invested in you taking/not taking the job and your income?

This time next month you will be earning £265 a month more (after tax), plus an increase in pension contributions AND learning the job of being a manager.

OK, your expenses will go up by the sounds of it, but you cant have it all.

I have no idea why there is even a debate about it. This is what you have worked hard for, you should be tearing their arm off. To be honest, if I was your manager and you were mulling it over this long I would be wondering whether to withdraw the offer.

You apply for a job, you get the job, you think about it, then ask for more money, they say no and you think about it a bit more... I would rather give the job to someone who wants it and would be over the moon to take it, which you say you are but your actions are saying otherwise.

Also, if you plan on being a manager, you might need to toughen up a bit, be a little more decisive and authoritative. You are being told what to do by someone who will soon be your equal. It is nice to be nice, but manage like this and you will soon be run ragged by your team. Dont give people the inch that leads to a mile because it is very hard to get it back without ending up in their bad books. Be firm from day one.

  • I’ve always known what I’ve wanted hence why I’ve fought for so long but right now, honestly I feel slightly bullied and unsupported at work. I’m prepared for everything this new role entails but never thought that someone would go to great lengths to be so rude and talk me out of it. This past week or so has been hard so much so I’ve gone days with living on water or some fruit and barely sleeping but it’s upset me so much... can’t be wait to be gone if I’m honest.
