This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

taff - thinking of you and your family x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH and myself enjoying first cuppas, he's watching catchup tv, whilst I'm on here. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and ok.
Bright sunny and clear blue sky to start the day here, air cool though.
Dinner last night was chicken fajitas, with skinny chips, side salad and coleslaw. Lunch today will be roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, swede, HG green beans, peas, yorkshires and gravy.
Visited DH's parents yesterday afternoon, mine were out so we go back this morning to see them. Chill for the remainder of the weekend.
Keeps safe and well x

Good morning and thanks for starting off Silver-Oldie.
It's fine but distinctly cool here, yesterday was very windy.
Thanks for the good wishes relating to my hospital appointment yesterday folks. Just have to wait for the biopsy results now, I'm sure they'll be ok.
Taff, I'm really sorry that your Dad has deteriorated so much - thinking of you and your family. All you can do is be with him.
We might go to Alnw*ick Gardens today, we do try and go every month but often other stuff gets in the way.
Nanny I saw you'd made corned beef pie, it's ages since I made a corned beefer, as DS
calls it. Pity you're so far away, I might have bobbed in for some.
Hope everyone has as good a day as they can.
Take care folks xx0 -
Morning everyone.
So far I've been surfing around reading the news and catching up with yesterday's radio programmes. DM sound asleep still.
This afternoon another friend is coming to visit DM so it's out with scones, cake and best china cups. This friend is going for a private hip replacement in two weeks so may not want cake even though she's so slim it's painful.
I hope everyone enjoys a peaceful and happy Sunday, especially those who are struggling.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It is a warm and sunny day here so far. Phoebe has left for work and Steve is still in bed enjoying the last day of his holiday from work.
Not really got anything planned for today, Steve is going to cook a roast chicken dinner later on and the kids are going to do the washing up. I have a few loads of laundry to get through but nothing urgent.
Taff, I am sorry to hear about the situation with your Dad. Hope you get to spend as much time as possible with him. Sending you a big cwtchy hug xx
Scarlet Ribbons, I have my fingers crossed for you that the biopsy is fine. Enjoy the Gardens if you go xx
Hester, how was the Wool Show, I hope you had a lovely time there and bought yourself some treats xx
Gers, sending you a big cwtchy hug too, I think it is so lovely you are looking after your mum, it can't be easy sacrificing your own personal life. I do hope you manage to get some respite sorted soon though so you have an opportunity to go home and recharge your batteries xx
I can hear the dogs snoozing and snoring away, I think it is going to be that kind of day. I might make some corned beef pasties now the idea is in my head from nannywindows. I already have the pastry made up in the fridge so that will be an easy make.
Well, Pinch Punch the first of the month!
I love September, so full of possibilities and the weather is usually a bit kinder for me :rotfl:
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning All
Yesterday's rain fizzled out thank goodness and the afternoon was quite pleasant, I even managed to get some washing nearly dry.
I have dug up some potatoes and onions (thousands of each) and still some at the allotment that I'll get next week, couldn't carry all of them. The onions are drying, I'll get them strung up in a day or two.
Sorry to hear your Dad isn't so good taff, hugs to you.
Enjoy the gardens Scarlet, somewhere I must visit sometime.
Off to sit with DD whilst her partner goes to football, we'll go for a wander then we're having lunch with a friend. Her partner doesn't want her to be on her own for too long at this late stage! (Due tomorrow).
Have a lovely Sunday, take care. XX0 -
good morning all from the Garden of England and a beautiful morning it is as well .Sunny and bright ,which is just as well as I have a couple of loads for my washing machine.Got home from my hols in one piece ,although I was quite tired last night as the M.25 seemed to be interminable with all the folk travelling home from their holidays as well I expect.Normally I get the washing on straight away ,but as I had in my fridge just one lemon I though hmm better get to the supermarket and get some fresh food in.Although by the time I had got what I needed and got home I felt too tired to eat much last night ,still it won't have done my waistline mush harm as I seemed to have eaten far too much in the past fortnight .My DD is lovely and I adore the bones off her ,but she is a feeder and if you do't eat enough she gets worried
She forgets that as you age you really don't have the appetite that you used to have ,well I don't anyway. I am happy with a main meal and two snacks or small things I am not a great breakfast or lunch eater anyway I suppose its because she is used to feeding five children and always seems to make stack of food bless her .She is feeling a bit better after her jaw/gum problem during the holidays but will try to get a dental appointment this Thursday to ensure it doesn't return.
Far too tired to do the washing last night ,plus there was actually a bit of rain, which made the air feel so much fresher,so this morning the washing machine is on for the odds and ends to catch up with and my house is being aired with all the windows opened after being shut up for a fortnight.
DGS Jack has only a couple more weeks to go then he is back to Uni and DGS Henry as well. He was doing overtime yesterday and today which he was offered so he is taking it as it will put more cash into his Uni fund.He has not done it much over the past three months as he said he left it for the chaps with families ,but it seems that they said he wasn't to worry as there was enough for everyone so he said OK
Dinner tonight at DDs as usual, but as I am away to Torquay on the 17th I really only had to buy fresh stuff last night fruit and veg and a few other bits so my shopping budget will be low again this monthOnly spent £16.00 and have more than enough for the next week at least if not more .
Right time for my morning pot of coffee, I did miss that when on holiday as I forgot to take my coffee pot and sadly there wasn't one at the holiday house .Menus all done already for this week so its just a bit of tidying up and putting away odds and ends from the packing to do
nice to be on holiday but also nice to be back to normality again DGS Mikey is back to school this week ,he was a happy boy as the English literature GCSE that he did early gave him a B which he was happy with,so its heads down for him as this year is the start of the rest of them I can't believe he will be going into year 11 this week, only seems five minutes ago he was starting nursery school. He is the last of DDs five offspring at school now so her school shoe bill was considerably lower than it used to be
Hope everyone has a good day and the sun shines down on you all, September already another year is flying by
Cheers chums

Morning all
Its a nice bright day here again but with a hint of Autumn I love the changing of the seasons and love each one, its our holiday in 16 days and once we are back it will start to be colder and the log burner will soon be on which makes everything so cosy, I need a bit of sun first though !
I have taken the big throw off of the sofa and got it in the wm, will hang it on the line, I need to do the overnight oats and put the lounge straight then we will get out with the dog maybe for a walk along the beach as she loves it there.
Bbq again tonight we had one last night but it was a bit too cool to sit out so OH cooks while I sit in the warmer conservatory with a glass of wine.
Scarlet I hope the results are ok xx
Camelot oh how exciting for you, please keep us posted xx
Taff thinking of you all xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Rabbits!!!!!
A lovely early autumn day, the sun is our and there is a breeze but that nip of autumn in the air. I am not a fan of Autumn and winter, hate the dark nights and having to put the lights on early, last night it was just before 8 pm.
Had a fail yesterday with a butterfly embroidery. It is stitched in two halves, each half has 29000 stitches and takes an hour. 3/4 of an hour into the first piece the machine had a hissy fit and I ended up with a massive glob of thread on the back......ruined.........will give it another try later in the week.
Taff....I am sorry to hear about your Dad, thoughts with you and your sister just now.
Chicken for supper with home grown veg, OH is out picking beans.....0 -
Good morning campers, the sun is shining fair to split the stones :j.
We have just returned from DD's as it's our DGS 10th birthday. He's had lots of cards, pressies and money...... I know where to go for a sub. Downside is that I forgot the birthday cake that DD had wrapped up for me to bring home . Never mind we are on the school run for a week and a half, so we will get the cake when the DGC are deposited here for breakfast tomorrow
. I have stocked up on food ready .
I don't know whether Dad will come over for lunch today, he hasn't rung yet so I am supposing that it's a yes. It's roast pork, roast pots, honey carrots, parsnips and green beans on the menu today. Could have had the birthday cake for pud, but will have to make do with sticky toffee pudding and custard instead.
JackieO glad you had a lovely holiday and nice to see you back safe and sound.
Scarlett I have every faith that the biopsy will be fine. I must confess I didn't make the pie..... Mr Fix It did as I hate putting my hands in pastry mixture, gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about it _pale_. But it was lovely. Personally I'd rather be at Gers tea party - mmmmmmmm :drool: scones and cake and china cups :j.
Camelot not long now, exciting times .......... please keep us informed and I hope all goes well for your DD.
Dumpling sorry about mentioning corned beef pie.........I seem to have started something :rotfl:
Thinking of all the poorly people, especially taff's Dad. Hugs to the carers and anyone having a rough time at present.
Best shake a leg as lunch won't cook itself.... I wish !
Take care all
nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0
