It is low like, though I know I am privileged in my job and my holiday entitlement isn't normal for many.

32 days to use when I want.
4 when they tell us to use them (Christmas shutdown)
    8 bank holidays

They could shut down in the summer for 2 weeks and that would be 19 days holiday gone. All perfectly legal.

and in fact that is what a lot of factories used to do - 30 years ago I spent a year working at Kays Shoe factory in Kendal - they closed for 2 weeks in the summer so everyone had their holiday then.

Some places I worked at used to dictate that you could take a maximum of 2 weeks over the summer period.

Term time workers get no choice on when they take all their holidays.

If you want to choose. Ask them to put the 3 days at Christmas as unpaid and you take the 3 days when you like as this seems to be what you want. Granted you would be 3 days of less pay but if that’s how you want it go ahead.

You get the legal amount there is nothing you can do as you don’t fall below the legal amount.

If you prefer go find a job that gives you more holidays.

I’d rather have a job I liked and enjoyed instead of concentrating on the holiday allowance.

By taking those days as unpaid the OP would then not be working their full contractual hours and therefore their paid holiday entitlement would be reduced proportionately.

Having said that, I know some employers don't enforce the reduction.

Used to work in a factory like that, total shutdown for 2 weeks in July, 1 week around Easter and 1 week around Christmas.

I think our holiday entitlement is quite generous. We get 25 days to take (within reason) whenever we want. This increases by a day a year up to 28 days. Plus 8 bank holidays, a further day off in summer where we close for a staff BBQ, half day near Christmas for the office party and Christmas Eve we are closed.

There is a possibility of us being closed between Christmas and New Year but we have been given written confirmation this will not be deducted from our holiday entitlement.

I have a friend whose company has shut down periods. That is their allocated holiday with only about 5 days of their choice.

My first job you had to take the Christmas time off.

In my job (finance) I am not able to take week 1 or 2 after month end, nor when certain other processes are taking place.

There are many companies whose holidays are not standard.

I get exactly the same amount of holidays. I do however have the flexibility of choosing when these days are. Coincidentally, i always book bank holidays and some time at Christmas.

as an example you are not allowed to book annual leave at Christmas. YYou are not allowed to book bank holidays..

    It's late and I'm confused :(

As far as I look at it I get 17 days of chosen holiday days. No one I know gets below 22 days of CHOSEN days. Forget about Xmas break and bank holidays.

Well ask your employer to re-advertise your job then.

I don't like the fact my employer can say goodbye in the first 6 months with no notice payable and indeed on asking for holiday having worked somewhere for 4months and being refused, I then see my job role being re-advertised.

We don't shut down at Christmas or indeed bank holidays and with a current holiday year ending December 31st and no carry-over allowed, I'm doing well.

I've worked at places which have compulsory holiday over the Christmas period - I've just viewed it as having the days I would take off pre-booked, so I don't have to do it.
