getting wet feet

Just a query - to stop me getting wet feet. I've got a couple of pairs of leather footwear that have started letting in a bit of water at the toes. They have lots of wear left in them - so in best O.S. fashion I am not planning on replacing them - just fixing what I presume is a hairline crack or something.
I read somewhere about something O.S. style one can do to waterproof footwear - cant for the life of me recall what it is or where. Any suggestions gratefully received - as it will save me the estimated £100 to replace them.
