O/S Daily Thursday 29 August 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy and misty start to the day and air is much cooler, but forecast to get warmer by midday.
DH and DS1 now getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Dinner last night was Hunters Chicken, mash and veg. Tonight I'm planning liver, bacon and sausage - so will organise that this morning.
Yesterday I was reasonably productive I did get a light housework done and all the washing up to date, everything was line dried too. I don't think there's enough washing to make up a load this morning, so will strip our bed and do that so hopefully I can get new bed linen on and the current linen line dried and put into the airing cupboard to air until needed.
I have a nail appointment first thing, on the way back I'll purchase the liver and sausages for tonight's dinner. Other than that I'll be at home - I have a small pile of ironing - if it's not too hot I'll do that. I may clear out a kitchen cupboard that's annoying me at the moment as it's such a mess.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Looks like another nice day again shame I am off to work, still it was a nice short week this week.
Meatballs for dinner tonight OH will have pasta and sauce with his I shall have a load of veg I am trying to loose a bit more before my holiday.
I went to see the massage woman yesterday It was painful but bliss ! she asked if she was hurting and I said yes but its nice and she said its called 'excruciating bliss' and it really was !! She has told me to get rid of the heel inserts which the nurse told me to get, and I have some exercises to do at home so I am helping it works and stops the pain somewhat, fingers crossed.
Need to do a wash tonight and I still didn't send my parcel so need to do that.
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning folks.
Autumn is definitely much closer now, I don't like the darkness which is coming. My body wants to just hibernate from October to March.
Things are difficult here. DM is making great efforts to eat and do some tasks. Trouble is she does too much one day, feels proud though is wiped out for days and days afterwards. She won't pace herself.
Unhappily my dodgy ankle 'went' overnight again. It's very annoying and very sore. It was fine all night until about an hour ago despite it being strapped up. I've hobbled to the loo and then the kitchen for a banana which I've eaten so I can take a mega painkiller. I will have to get this checked out when the pain gets zapped.
Thinking about all those struggling. Happy Thursday to all.0 -
Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC. You seem to be as busy as ever!
It's only 14 degrees, with a distinctly chilly breeze blowing, what a change. I suppose it will probably warm up a bit.
The saga of our gas fire continues, we are thinking that the service man doesn't want, or is too busy to do the job, so just keeps not turning up. We've belatedly got the message so won't be bothering him any more. It's a pity, because he's always been reliable. He installed a whole new heating system for us a few years ago and since then has serviced the boiler and fire. Never mind, there are plenty of people out there, we'll get someone else
We discovered yesterday that the toilet was leaking at the back, where the pipe goes through the wall into the soil pipe, Dh had a go at mending it with new sealant , but it was no good. Then he remembered that when we'd renewed the annual buildings and contents insurance we'd also included a home emergency policy which only added a few pence.
He checked the policy and it was covered, so rang the company straightaway, and they said they would contact their plumbing people, and that someone would ring us. All this happened early evening.
Anyway the plumber rang about 8pm last night to say he was on his way - by 8.45 he'd fixed it!!
The leak has got through to the sitting room ceiling, but it'll dry out.
So that domestic drama ended successfully. There's always something isn't there
I'm going to card making this afternoon, and apart from the usual jobs that's it.
Thinking of Taff, so sorry your Dad is so poorly.
Also others struggling with health and life problems. Sorry to hear things aren't too good for you and your Mum Gers.
Glad you've had some relief Redruby. You did the right thing going to that massage lady.
Take care folks xx0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off nmlc
Thinking of going out this morning but the sky looks dark and full of rain. If we don't go out I don't see or talk to anyone except DH.
Thoughts are with Taff and her Dad, Gers and her Mum, also Holly, Poppy, Nelski, OL and absent friendsIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
It's quiet on the thread today. Gers and Taff, I'm sorry you're going through such hard times, be gentle with yourselves.
Steve's back at the optician's today. We've decided that if they can't help we'll ask for a referral to the eye hospital - it's obvious that either the chemo or the steroids have affected his eyes in some way.
We went to an antiques barn and got an old railway sign for the company that built this house which will look good in the back yard here. The company went out of business in the 1920's. We also took Ziggy to Skipton Woods for a walk so that we could let her off the lead (there's so much livestock around here we don't let her off unless it's very safe). She loved it and came back gloriously muddy.0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Hunters chicken is Steve's favourite.
SO hugs, I'm the same, only ever talk to Steve.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning all! Well, it was raining but the sun is now struggling to come out. Western Power came out yesterday to fix the electric earth point, a PME or something and I don't know where they get their employees from but a pair of strapping, very handsome, very tall, blonde, blue eyed and muscly young men attended...they could have been twins..now I'm waiting for the electrician to come back to connect it up to the mains because apparently some do it, some dont .
Went BlackBerry picking after they left because father said he would like a crumble with them and apples, so made that took it over, do you want some? No....so I'd made individual ones and I gave one to his friend who visits and I'll drop one off for my auntie when I leave today. She only lives in the next street.
Spoke to the consultant, some realistic truths were imparted, not so much about his condition, but about expectations regarding his physical state. He is weakening rapidly due to not eating and drinking and is refusing liquids. It's his choice but it's bloody hard to watch.
So on that cheery note, I'm going to have some toast, wait for the electrician who is a tonic, very genuine and someone who's number I am definitely keeping for the future ,and then go to my sister's to see what we are doing today. I have to go back for a doc appt tomorrow but I think I'll be coming back sooner than usual. Tesco and asda are having my cash for clothes being as I forgot my hoodie (got another one) and other things....mse I am not at the moment.....except for picking blackberries
Hope today finds you all well except for Gers ankle of course, hope that gets better soon or they find out what it is , SO, hugs for you too. And AOD. And anyone who wants one...
Testing times thursday....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Morning all,
Sorry to hear you're having testing times taff, and Gers too.Hugs!
Snoozer hope the optician makes a difference today. I like the sound of that old sign!
Glad the leak was sorted SR
RR sounds like the masseuse did a good job!
It's a lot cooler here today nmlc, I might do a cupboard or 2 ...in a bit.
Hope you get out today silver-oldie and talk to others, you too HH,are there no other boaters nearby on the towpath? Hugs anyway :grouphug:
DGS has just left,Mum & Stepdad have been to pick him up - they are having a few days away over the border (Yorkshire) There was so much stuff in the car- 2 car seats, travel cot for their toddler, pram , just for starters before any luggage  but I'm sure they'll have a good time, just hope it doesn't rain too hard for them.
DS is also getting regular photographic updates from DGD , looks like she's having a whale of a time
The car has gone in today to have the brakes done , more outlay but needs must.
I think I'll see if I can dig something out of the freezer for tea, a hm 'ready meal'. I've got a sm delivery at lunchtime and not much room in the freezers.Time to eat some stock!
Love to absent friends ,hope you are ok. Have a good day the rest of you:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Hello all
Our DGD,s sleepover went well last night, however I kept waking up just to check on her, as you do, so I am shattered now. We had a lovely time playing with the LOL dolls and I was the officiate at the wedding of Princess Ruby and Prince Derek :rotfl:. Don't know where she got that name from .
We dropped her off this morning then went into Li*l for some milk and it was really busy, probably because Al*is is closed for an extension and refurbishment til Sept 5th. We stopped off at the chippy on the way home, so no tea to cook :j.
I have started putting things back to normal, but I'm doing it at a snails pace. It will all get done at some point as I have nothing planned other than tidying and cleaning tomorrow. I shall sort out the spare bedroom then and give it a once over too.
I shall send hugs to all today, as many of you seem to be having a stressful time for a lot of different reasons. Healing vibes are going to the poorly people too.
Take care all.
nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Well, it's been a quiet day here. The painkillers kept me mostly mobile though I decided not to risk going to the hospital today as I wasn't sure about managing the stairs here or getting in /out of a taxi. By tomorrow both should be fine to do.
DM's cleaner was here. She's ditched using DM's Miele in favour of the GTech I bought recently. What's funny is that she doesn't extend the handle fully as she finds it easier to use it collapsed as she's so small!
I've had a chicken breast with some salad for lunch while DM had sauerkraut with potatoes and pork sausages. She's now too full for an evening meal so will have an Ensure instead.
The newest jeggings were too small for her, thankfully, so they will go back next week. I've found a little place which does alterations, the current trousers need taken up a lot. Another job for next week.
Now for an early night. I've 'rescued' my Mick Herron book from DM who was saving it up. :rotfl:
I hope that all is well with folk.0
