    Others have said it's too late to do much now. I agree up to a point - you still have time to make your peace with your spouse & the lad's mother.

    Shielding the lad from his own stupidities at this stage will be throwing good money after bad.

    You have tried. He has blown your generosity & is likely to loose the lot.

    Reach out to his likely-as-despairing parents, promise not to do it again & seek collective advice on how to work as a team, to help the lad. Tough love only works if all of you stick to it.
