Are the prices on par with London or something?

Also is there frequent and cheap connection with London? How long it would take?

I don't reckon they will offer you anything - and probably not the job, either, unless you are much more clued up on that than you seem to be in the use of google. You can easily check connections to the mainland - do some of your own research.

    Thanks for your replies.

Unless you are an executive or with skills in short supply, then they are unlikely to offer you accommodation, and if they were offering it, I would have thought it would have been mentioned in the job advert. Banks employ many people with no housing qualifications who have to sort themselves out.

Have you actually visited the island?

  • I have not visited the island and I shouldn't bother in the first place.

They advised from the company that they cannot meet my salary requirements.

I wonder, are they looking for desperate victims? Who will go to live in an isolated island if not for much better money?

LoL they are pathetic. If you want to save billions from offshore taxes, have the least dignity to pay the people who waste their lives offshore adequately.

Waste of time, even after telling them my salary requirements, they asked me, "so you don't want to proceed?". Ridiculous!

If you know anyone desperate enough, tell them they are desperately hiring in Jersey.

So you were interviewed for, and considered taking a banking job in Jersey, but without even checking how long it took to get there from London, or how regular flights were? Which would have taken about 5 minutes on Google.
I suspect that they rather quickly saw through your 'extensive research'.

Jersey recruits high quality professionals. They're politely telling you that they don't see you as any such thing.

I don't get the attraction. You can't get secure accommodation (looks like London prices to live somewhere without London's facilities), no free healthcare, limited education choices.

I read that when Dara O'Briain visited places that small he wondered they were too small to have things found in bigger countries, and he guessed it would be piano factories.

I moved from a small city (about twice the size of Jersey) to a town bigger than any in Jersey and thought there wouldn't be much difference but I hated it. They might as well have rolled up the pavements at night, there was so little to do.

The small city I lived in had choices of universities, multiplex cinemas, Chinese supermarkets, shopping malls.

Not sure that Jersey is comparable.

Have you lived in small or remote places before? You might end up finding things aren't convenient or simple.

Jersey is a very pleasant island, I had a great time and made some friends I'm still in contact with 25 years later. However if you're looking for a London lifestyle, Jersey is not for you. And don't even think about Guernsey.............

So, lower than London salaries despite huge offshore profits, yet London prices and lots of inconvenience e.g. extremely remote and expensive and scarce accommodation, I see why they are desperate for victims.

Salaries may be lower but take home could be higher

    It's only a 10% less tax.
That's less than 10k per year which does not justify the hassle and you get most of it through higher salary in London anyway.
I would go to work in the middle East easily. You get zero tax plus paid accommodation and car. And it's more fun than miserable Jersey that has a whopping 21% tax.
