Looking for a mortgage as a Bank Nurse

Hi guys, I am hoping to buy my first house. However I work full time as a Bank Staff Nurse. This means that although I sometimes work over 37.5 hours a week, I do not have a permanent contract and receive my pay in weekly payslips.

I have a help to buy ISA, good sized deposit and no negative credit history.

Does anyone have any information on what mortgages or advice is available to me? So far I have had very mixed messages....Such as they will only count 60% of my income, or that I need to provide 6 months worth of payslips, or that I just wont be able to get one at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Shelley.

  • I looked into this for someone today ironically.

Best I could find if bank was sole source of income and doing the job for less than 6 months was a lender using 60% of average of last 3 payslips.

I was looking for someone also doing new build shared ownership flat with a 10% deposit and only started bank 1 month ago so wasn't looking at all lenders but generally speaking the lenders will treat it as a 0 hour.

How long have you been doing bank?

My partner is a nurse. Our lender was not interested in her additional banking contract and it isnt even mentioned in our application
  • Going to come down to how long you've been doing it for. Essentially a zero hour contract so lenders need to see good track record of stable income before lending on it
