So just a quick update. I have managed to get another job (self employed to a company) which I can just about manage alongside the work I'm already doing. Its £27 an hour and starting with just 3 hours a week but will increase.
Early days but we have done really well not frittering money. I have batch cooked a load of soup and frozen in portions and taken them for lunch rather than buying. Iv been selling stuff and made £65 so far. My husbands company have changed the rules on personal use of vans and for £13 a week he can use it whenever he wants and so we are selling the cheap car and putting it off the lowest barclaycard. although the van is £13 a week, it works out cheaper than running the cheap car, which is over £300 a year to tax and only does 17mpg.
Our electricity bill has gone down by £12 a month so thats good. I cancelled my Which Subscription that i didn't actually realise was still running. I have discovered that i am out of contract on sky so can get rid, just need to look into other broadband options as need it for work.
There are probably other things too but can't think of them right now.0 -

Great start, sounds like a good short term plan with the car. I have a company car and fuel which I pay tax on, however It means I drive a new car every 12 weeks and travel without cost so it works for me. The tax element is around £400 a month. Careful your husband isnt stung on the private use of the van through his pay, he would be liable for BIK on a commercial vehicle if used privately. Currently on 40% rate tax it could be costing him £115 a month in company car tax on his P11D
I love trimming down my bills, check again your water, water saving devices, washing the cars, get a water butt etc.
