Brexit and city break??

Is it a good idea to book a city break to Vienna on 1 November, a day after Brexit? It will be ATOL protected.

Oh for gods sake. Why would it be a bad idea?

No cancel everything from 31st October onwards.
We will need visas for everywhere.
The queues for immigration and customs will be hours long.
Will need a new international driving licence and have take a new test.
Your cards will be void so take Euro traveller cheques.

Or you could totally ignore that load of drivel and book and enjoy your city break like millions have before and millions will do after.

If anything drastic were to happen your ATOL protection would kick in...

However, it is reasonable to expect queues and delays at airports as staff get used to working in new ways for the first time. If you were going for a couple of weeks then losing the odd hour or so on the journey would not matter, but for a weekend break those delays could be enough to ruin the experience.

The biggest danger would be a fall in the value of Sterling if there is no deal but that would happen in the days leading up to B-day. I wouldn't have any concerns about travelling as I'm sure every effort would be made to make things go smoothly over the first few days.

We have flights to Hong Kong (ongoing problems there present their own, very different concerns;)) on 14 November with only 2 hour transit in Schipol.

That 2 hours is already quite tight, and Schipol is a very large airport, so personally, I am a little a little concerned by the prospect of long queues at immigration. However, there is absolutely nothing I can do about it and trust that KLM will do their best to speed transit passengers through:o

The long queues (if any) at Schiphol would be to enter the Schengen zone, something that you would not need to do. Both the UK and Hong Kong are outside the Schengen zone, so you would have no need to enter the 'domestic' part of the airport.

Schiphol is actually one of my favourite transit airports because everything is well-organised....

It sounds like both your flights are KLM, in which case your transit at Schiphol will involve no immigration or security check. You can relax, you will experience hub airport efficiency the way it should be...
