    Harrybrown, may I strongly suggest that you read this website specifically for the members of your pension scheme to have a full understanding of the scheme.

    EPA is a way to build up a portion of your alpha pension that can be paid earlier than your alpha Normal Pension Age (NPA), without any reduction. You really ought should know that since you are a member of this scheme.

    Although starting late with lowish contributions is not idea, you are probably going to get a full SP, you will also get some pension from your civil service scheme. Any extra you put in will just improve that.
    First stage as said above is understand what you have now, then compare that to what you currently live on (minus mortgage / work expenses) and see how that compares to what you are already predicted to get.
    Bridging the gap may not be as difficult as you think.
