The trip begins with a flight from London on Vietnam Airlines – the only airline to fly direct to Vietnam from the UK. Your journey of over a thousand miles through the wondrous landscapes of this Southeast Asian country follows responsible tour operator G Adventures’ small group Vietnam Hike, Bike and Kayak itinerary.

After arriving in southern Ho Chi Minh City, the former Saigon, you will cycle back roads past rubber plantations and rice fields to reach the Cu Chi Tunnels, for a tour of this underground labyrinth dating from the Vietnam War.

A flight to Da Nang brings you next to the nearby city of Hue. You can explore this ancient imperial capital by bike, visiting the citadel and tomb of Emperor Tu Duc. A trip by sleeper train brings you north to Hanoi. There’ll be time to take in some of its culture, but first you’ll head out into the hill country of Mai Chau for a homestay and hiking. Another defining Vietnamese landscape concludes your trip: Halong Bay.

You’ll get up close to the karst islands of ‘Descending Dragon Bay’ on a kayak trip, and stay on a traditional wooden junk.
