Starting a new job but may need to go on sick leave for an operation?

So basic background is that I have been offered a really good job and I start the 11th September and I’m so excited. I’m a bit worried though because I have been suffering with bad abdominal pain which doctors are suspecting gallstones. I am getting a scan within two weeks and I’m just worried that if they do fine…

I worked for my employer (local authority) as a temp, via an agency, for about nine months before getting the job permanently. I had been waiting for a date for an operation for a while, and of course, the date offered was just one week after I had started permanently. The employers were fine about it and I *think* (it was nine years ago) I got full sick pay for the time I was off - about six weeks
