John Lewis Price match query

Options
I phoned up JL the other day to find out their price for SatNav my son wants to buy. He works part time for Waitrose so he is entitled to a discount (12.5% on the satnav) and I wanted to see if their price minus discount was less than some of the internet prices I have found.

To my surprise, they quoted a steep price of £249, and the day before I had seen the same model in Curry's for £199.99. The lady explained the price match, took some details and hey presto I got a letter today saying they have reduced the price.

The letter also said that if I were to purchase it from them (at the new lower price of £199) I should bring the letter with me when I come in ?

Does anyone know why they have asked that I do this ? Will I be offered a further reduction on production of the letter ?

Don't think you will be offered further reduction but PM isn't always done instore or in same department so may need letter to ensure sales assistant honours amount.

    Hi!
My hubby works for JL as well.
We recently bought a tv and had to take in the letter giving us the PM.
We could not get the 12% off as well as the PM.
It was either one or the other so we took the PM and not the discount.
    HTH :D

I am surprised you could not get the discount as well. I thought that if they reduce the price then it is available to anyone at that price ? In which case my son could go in without the letter, buy the satnav at the reduced price and get the partner discount !

Does anyone know if John Lewis price match websites as well as high street shops as have seen a TV I want on www.play.com which is about £200 cheaper than John Lewis

No, they do not pricematch websites.

loobs, they will not necessarily have reduced the price on display in the store. My Dad got £500 off a tv, but the price in store was still the full price.
    Gone ... or have I?

Slowen, if you want John Lewis to match the price it must be from a shop...
Have a look on kelkoo and other price matching sites and find a shop in the UK and they should honor it. I am currently in the same situation and JL are actually goinig to visit a store in Edgware road to ensure that the TV is actually being sold for the price I quoted!
  • If the price in store is £199, you will get partner discount of 12%. If it is price match you will not get discount but will need letter as proof of PM. If it is in store as Reduced to Clear, you will not get discount.

So the slogan 'Never Knowingly Undersold' is actually a blatant lie ?

They now know the price of the Navman S70 is cheaper in a store round the corner, but they are not going to match the price to the general public, only me and only if I bring in the letter ?
