How do u keep up with main forum?

As a recent addition [I hope!] to NI 'club' and feeling very much like the new kid alone and scuffing shoes in the corner of the playground, I have spent a few days sight-seeing MSE and exploring the mine of information available - sort of getting to grips with it gradually.

It's easy to keep up with NI forum as the there are only a few postings, but the main forum is a different ball game  , new posts appear so fast -how do I keep up? if I go for specific forums, then I miss out on some other interesting threads/posts? or do I just dip in and out and keep hitting "new posts" every few seconds? Hope u all can give me some tips. :embarasse Apologies if I am being a bit of a plonker!

  • Be patient, you will pick it up as you go along. There's no right or wronmg way to do it. I usually subscribe to the boards I'm interested in and receive a daily email update. You can see the subscription optin in your user cp at the top of the board.

For help a good read is Sra's unofficial a- z list.

    Hope this helps :)
  • ps you are number 275 in the Norn Iron club :D
  • Tks - useful info. Have read unofficial a-z, but missed the bit on user cp - wondered what that was all about when I clicked on it and nowt was there! Will rummage around in there for a while and post if I get stuck.

    What main forum

There is no other outside the Norn Iron 1....... Honest :o:D

It is time consuming, but in a good way;) when the Other Half is watching Eastenders or Coronation Street, I can quiet happily surf MSE and easily pass an hour or even 2;)

You soon learn to sort the wheat from the chaff;)

Oh and welcome to the forum :T :T :T
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

i tend to just click on "new posts" and scroll through them, clicking on the threads that take my fancy
  • I tend to go to different forums according to what I'm interested in at the time. At the minute I'm keeping an eye on the credit card one cos I'm trying to think about stoozing and just want to pick up whatever tips are going. I use some of the other boards for specific things - eg the travel and transport one if I have a car issue or the home one for something specifically home related. But I'm more interested in the OS board than anything else. Every now and again I realise there's a board I've barely looked at (like the student board) and I have a nosy. I also tend to keep an eye on the DFW board since there are some really useful tips on there and it covers a huge amount of ground. I also find it's a good reminder of why I'm trying to be MS, it's amazing when you read the stories how fast money trouble can hit if you lose your job or something and haven't managed to put a bit of cash aside.

I'd say at the start just pick one or two boards and then broaden out as you have time or inclination...

Oh I've also just realised I always run my eye over shop but don't drop and grabbit boards once a day just in case there's anything I need :)

    Welcome!
  • As a relative newbie I was wondering how you keep up with the threads that you post yourself. I often forget what I've posted and then can never find it. Is there an easy way of doing this.
  • Just go to Quick Links at the top of the thread and click on subscribed threads. That'll bring you to any posts you have subscribed to.
