Not going well so far today...

Agreed to take the kids to a day out, which will be very costly.

How do you people talk to your kids about money?

I don't want to tell them we are in massive debt. But I don't want them to expect everything?

We've gotten good at not buying them random stuff.

But for days out, it can be hard, especially in the holidays.

My parents were always in debt. Although they suffered for it, and always said, "don't get into debt when you grow up", I think it did normalize it and make it more acceptable, or a natural part of life, in my eyes.

I guess it's the old "do as I say, not as I do" approach, which never really works, does it?

Actions speak louder than words, and all that...

that's a good plan. a clean sheet would be brilliant but even if you only reduce your spend and not eliminate it you'll be up on the deal
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine

Yeah, I tried not to spend much.

    And it sort of worked.

But then "unexpected" things happen and its all too easy to wipe out those "savings".

£21,000 in the hole now ;-(
