I think they find the most wasteful examples of families so that the "savings" are greater. Most of us wouldn't spend that sort of money so the show would be a bit less "entertaining"0

I actually find this show VERY annoying. The family have already spent the money and they won't recoup it - they haven't saved anything. All they've done is learn that they are stupid brand snobs, who need to open their eyes and assess things based on quality not name, and been publicly humiliated for it.
As a contrast, I love "Eat Well For Less" because the family does learn how to save money while increasing their quality of life and acquiring a much healthier diet.

It's discussed a little in this thread:

Get rid of them and buy some cheaper ones!' So you're spending more money on buying cheaper versions of perfectly functional items you've already got? Can't see how that saves you money.
(Yes, ok, if you're needing to replace them then looking for cheaper options may be money saving but that's not the case with the families being shown!)
Personally, I don't find the show in any way 'entertaining'.
Steph McGovern is beyond irritating with her comment 'That's massive' to any mention of price differential.0 -
I watch them sometimes, but just to be gobsmacked at what some people think is "normal".
Always surprised by the blind "brand tarts" and how they just buy big/expensive stuff because of the label.
These people are exceptions, else they'd not be able to make so many programmes about them because if most people were like them there'd be no audience for it as it's "normal, so boring".
I am staggered at how much income the household's must have and how they make their moneyThey so often seem to be "regular looking bloke goes off to work" ... and yet they seem to have a gazillion quid to waste every month.

They have to be drowning in credit card debt. I can't rationalise it any other way.

Some of them spend, per year, on food and tat, more than many many earn pre-tax!
... yet they're "struggling", bless them all.0
