Mortgages in spain

Greetings, Back in 2006, I took out a mortgage on a property in Spain, which will be my "retirement home" in the future. The mortgage was arranged through a "Mortgage Adviser"in Spain. The mortgage was with "Banesto Bank", who have since been taken over by "Santander", and I now pay my mortgage to them. The Spanish "Santander Bank" is part of the global "Santander" group.I am trying to find out if I was entered into a "PPI" contract with the mortgage, (as the "Mortgage Adviser" seemed to have charged me for everything else!),or indeed, if "PPI" applied to mortgages in Spain at the time?.
Needless to say, the "Mortgage Adviser" is no longer in business, the "Santander Bank" in Spain is very unhelpful, and "Santander" in the U.K.claim that they are unable to get involved with the workings of their "sister" bank in Spain!.
Any help would be much appreciated, but can anyone please tell me if "PPI" could have been applied to my mortgage back in 2006, or is it purely a "British" contrived clause?.

Kind regards, and thank you for taking the trouble to read my dilemma.

You'd be best to ask on a Spanish forum, we're mainly knowledgeable about UK things here. I have no idea whether PPI (and the concept of reclaiming missold PPI) is even a thing in Spain.

Having said that - if this is still your current mortgage account, surely you know what you're paying for?

    Hi

I am guessing that this is through a Spanish bank so is a Euro mortgage?

I can see why Santander (UK) would not be interested.

But your annual statement should state what you are paying for.

Is there an English speaking line? I have a French Euro mortgage that has one.

    Thanks Mark
