Good grief! Do you wanna start a fight?? :)

It can be very difficult to promote the proper/right[?] view of Old Style to new members. Actually - to some old ones too.

It isn't about penny pinching, nor is it about penny counting... it's about spending each penny wisely...

..and it's also about feeling good at the end of the day. Not cheated. Not restricted. Just that you got a good deal from the pennies that you worked darn hard to earn.

Oh gracious no, not a fight!!! Thought it might be interesting to mingle a bit and say hello to some of the ones down the pub. They are always having a right laugh there - not at us of course - but it seems such a shame that we don't mix a bit more when we're in such close proximity. They are obviously aware of us, but perhaps don't know what to make of us. And isn't it Old Style to say hello and be welcoming..? I'm just not sure of the best way to go about it..

Y'know from the time that I discover MoneySaving Old Style, I kinda notice that there is some kind of Group here. Like the official Old Styler's. I am right?
If so, dont you mingle on other forums for extra money saving?

I look at the other boards but I find that I use them for information only, there isn't really anything that I can add to the thread to offer help or advice etc. I feel that here I can put something back into the general pool of info. There is a community feel here, particularly with the 'getting to know you thread' you feel as if you know who you are conversing with

I am sure that others are like me in that they first came for other forums - for me it was mainly grabbit, which meant the kids had a bumper christmas - hope they don't expect the same this year!

Old Style was something I came to gradually, looking in now and again. Now I can honestly say it is my favourite section without a doubt - the people are friendly and incredibly helpful - the one time there was a bit of a dispute (that I saw, there may have been more before) I was really surprised - I wouldn't have been in other sections, its commonplace there.

I do still look in the other sections, I am sure we all do. Don't want to miss out on anything juicy - not that I have seen anything really worth going for since Xmas, but you never know....

 That's an interesting point, because there seems to be an misconception about Old Stylers and the use of the "whole" boards.
There are certain forums that simply are not applicable to *my* lifestyle right now ... I don't need a loan, I'm not an Ebayer, I'm not a Debt-Free-Wannabe, I'm not a student... blah, blah, blah. There *are* other forums which I do go into though. I've recently saved a lot of money on my car insurance via information on the Insurance board ... but I possibly won't need to use that again for maybe another year, if at all! ;) The coupons/vouchers forum is often of great help for the PMS Challenge.

Snowy - I saw the thread you linked to before I saw this one ... I actually think it's a wonderful discussion!

Of course some things seem "extreme" and yes some things may seem "obsessive" if that isn't someone's need/way of doing things ;) .. but to be fair to the poster, OS has been used as an example for the fundamental question re: being "tight". And (IMHO) that is a common misconception about the OS lifestyle ... pinching that penny = tight! LOL It's a great opportunity to express how shallow that impression becomes when others are given an opportunity to explain how much more than penny pinching the principles really are.

I love beating commercialism by eating food/ingredients *I* choose and not feeding fat cat businessmen's bank balances :D I love using basic environmentally friendly methods of cleaning/recycling not only for the reason of FC bank balances but also because .... in my own teeny way, I'm hoping "saving" the planet?
I love taking one item and using it two or three different ways and not buying every gadget invented to make us spend yet more money on yet more unrecyclable goods!

I love *not* being a part of the hurly burly, hurry scurry, must-have's lifestyle. And I'm rather proud that I haven't fallen into the trap of de-skilling myself by relying more and more on ready-meals, processsed foods and off the shelf non food items.

But, when all said and done ... these are *my* choices and it's a "one coat doesn't fit all" society ;)

He has begun a wonderful thread and I really am looking forward to seeing how it progresses :D:D:D
